**Job Description - SENCo - Early Years Practitioner - Key Worker**
**Start date**:February 2023
**About the role**: You will be joining a small, friendly and well-established setting as a key worker for nominated children and will also work alongside the existing SENCo before her retirement in July. Experience in a SENCo role is ideal but a willingness to learn is the most important. This is a part-time role but will possibility to extend to full time from September 2023 with time both in the playroom and dedicated planning and preparation time as well as protected SENCo time.
The current hours required will be as follows:
Monday: 9am-4pm Tuesday: 9am-1pm
Thursday: 9am-4pm Friday: 9am-4pm
**Will be term time only, so you will get all school holidays off, with full pay.**
**Main Duties**:
**Key Worker**:
To use your early years knowledge to provide a high standard of physical, emotional, social and intellectual care for children placed in the setting
To ensure the setting meets the needs of individual children from different cultures and religious backgrounds, and stages of development
To be involved in the observation, assessment and planning for your nominated group of key children
To work in partnership with parents and carers to support the learning and development of children
To work flexibly as part of a team, involving collaborative planning and discussion of any concerns, attending events, meetings and training as required
- To actively promote and support the safeguarding of children and young people in the workplace, ensuring setting policies and procedures are observed at all times
- To provide a caring role to children, including washing and changing children as required and providing comfort and warmth to an ill child
**SENCo**:
- To implement Beehive’s Inclusion/SEND policy and work closely with colleagues and parents to support children with SEND and understand children’s individual needs
- To undergo training and development opportunities to appropriately support the supervisor to ensure the setting provides inclusive EY provision
- To support practitioners who are concerned about a child and assist them in completing additional observation and assessment of children’s learning
- To ensure that relevant background information about individual children is collected, recorded and up-dated, and that all written records are completed
**Person specification**:
Willingness to learn and undertake further studies for a qualification in SEN
- A positive approach to inclusive practice, demonstrating enthusiasm with a friendly, flexible and enthusiastic approach
Previous experience of caring for, or working with children aged 2-5
- Ability to communicate well in all forms, clearly and accurately, including clear writing and professional communication with children, colleagues and families
Strong organisational skills, record keeping and planningand excellent punctuality
- Patience and empathy with children, colleagues and parents/carers/carers
**Desirable Qualifications**:
Diploma in Pre-school Practice Course, NVQ level II or ideally III
- Current Paediatric First Aid certificate (current or willing to achieve)
- Safety and Food Hygiene in the workplace (current or willing to achieve)
This post requires a DBS check as there may be periods of unsupervised access to children. An enhanced DBS and satisfactory references would be obtained prior to commencement of employment.
