Quality and Safety Operational Clinical Lead

The initial focus for the post holder will be to focus on the continued operational delivery of the national framework for managing patient safety incidents following nosocomial (hospital acquired) Covid-19. This is a high-profile national programme with all NHS provider organisations in Wales requiring support and oversight in their delivery of the work. The post holder will be the operational lead for this work, which will include engagement with all Health Boards and Trusts across Wales as well as key stakeholders such as Welsh Government, Public Health Wales and Welsh Risk Pool. The role will involve a variety of tasks such as running national workshops to facilitate agreed outcomes and positions; provision of advice and support to NHS provider organisations in delivering the Framework; and collation and analysis of relevant data to inform decisions.

THIS POST IS FIXED TERM/SECONDMENT FOR 15 MONTHS DUE TO FUNDING

If you are an internal applicant this post will only be offered on a secondment basis and you will need to have gained your line managers approval for the secondment prior to going to interview

The ideal post holder will have been clinically active during the pandemic and bring that knowledge and experience into this role with them, ideally with a practical understanding of the challenges around outbreak management and undertaking investigations in line with PTR. They will be a motivated self-starter who is keen to hit the ground running, with excellent communication skills enabling them to confidently discuss complex information in an understandable way. They will be resilient and flexible, allowing them to adapt and change as the circumstances and context of the pandemic are continually evolving. As this is a national post, it is essential that the post holder is professional who is credible and able to represent the NHS Wales Delivery Unit to the highest standards. They will have excellent interpersonal skills and able to engage at a national level with individuals of all grades and backgrounds, from Executives through to front line staff.

The NHS Wales Delivery Unit (DU) also provides professional support to improve care quality and patient safety across the NHS in Wales.

The unit is required to respond at pace where organisations are demonstrating quality, safety and/or performance deterioration.
