**1. PRINCIPAL ACTIVITIES**: Paediatric Orthopaedic Surgery

The post holder’s duties will be at the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre, the Children’s Hospital, Stoke Mandeville Hospital and Wycombe General Hospital, but it is a condition of the appointment that the post holder will be willing to work in any of OUH Trust’s locations.

Clinical

This post is to join an enthusiastic and thriving clinical service, and to further develop its regional clinical network. The position is available on a 10 PA job plan basis with 1:4 on-call commitment.

Objectives of the post
- To provide a high quality secondary and tertiary paediatric orthopaedic service to the children and adolescents of Oxfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Thames Valley and neighbouring counties.
- To support the multidisciplinary team and participate in multidisciplinary meetings.
- To support and continue todevelop clinical collaboration with other paediatric services in Oxford and Buckinghamshire, especially where this may impact on paediatric orthopaedic provision.
- To develop further paediatric training in orthopaedics with support of local and grid trainees and provide orthopaedic teaching for other postgraduate trainees.
- To comply with the recommendations of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health and the Royal College of Surgeons over the provision of acute and specialty services for children.

The Directorates are led by Clinical Directors and supported by Operational Service Managers, Matrons and other relevant experts. The Directorates host services on three hospital sites; The John Radcliffe Hospital, The Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre and the Horton General Hospital, Banbury.

DEPARTMENT OF PAEDIATRIC ORTHOPAEDIC SURGERY

The Oxford Paediatric Orthopaedic Service covers the local needs in Oxfordshire and also acts as a tertiary referral centre for the surrounding counties and beyond. It includes:

- 4 Paediatric Orthopaedic Consultants
- 2 Specialist Physiotherapists
- 1 Clinical Fellow
- 1 Clinical Nurse Specialist
- 3 Specialist Registrars
- 1 Foundation Year Doctor.

Areas of expertise include Paediatric bone oncology, limb reconstruction, club foot, DDH and other congenital and acquired hip conditions, cerebral palsy, neuromuscular disease, paediatric upper limb and bone dysplasias.

Excellent facilities at the Oxford Children’s Hospital and the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre support the service. These include children’s and adolescent surgical wards, a day surgery unit, dedicated children’s clinic, on site orthotic manufacturing facility, wheelchair service and the Oxford Gait Laboratory. The team has strong links with the other paediatric and orthopaedic clinical services, a clinical network with DGH’s in the surrounding counties, as well as affiliations with the University of Oxford.
