Operational Safety Team Leader

The Operational Safety Team within the Forensic Directorate, particularly at Rowanbank Clinic, has the responsibility for the safety of all patients, staff and the general public. This will be provided through the provision of a secure and supportive environment which will facilitate the balance between essential security and the creation of a therapeutic milieu. The Operational Safety Team Leader will support the ethos of the service which will be to, where possible, deliver security in a proactive, subtle and unobtrusive manner which enhances and supports this milieu. The Safety Team Leader must be able to demonstrate understanding of a range of work procedures and practices, some of which are non-routine, and requires a base level of theoretical knowledge normally acquired through formal training or equivalent experience. This includes a working knowledge of security policies and procedures as well as security systems such x-ray screening machines/metal detection/access card systems/CCTV/panic attack systems and more. They will also require to have good communication and interpersonal skills, good analytical and judgement skills, as well as planning and organisational skills such as manpower planning and balancing the demands of a busy department on a shift by shift basis, and have a working knowledge of a PC and relevant systems including Microsoft Outlook. The Safety Team Leader will be required to:

- Directly supervise the safety staff ensuring maintenance of a safe and secure environment in line with local practices/procedures/protocols
- Ensure all persons entering or leaving are authorised to do so
- Respond to system alarms by investigating reasons, initiating and monitoring responses
- Ensure that required security is balanced with good customer care
- Fully operate the CCTV system and monitor all patient/staff/visitor movement using CCTV and 2 way radios
- Programme and monitor all access passes
- Liaise with and support the Operational Safety Coordinator to ensure a variety of accurate data is available
- Handle a large volume of calls and information from various communication systems whilst remaining fully aware of movement within the Clinic
