You will work alongside a Consultant Clinical Psychologist, and other Clinical Psychologists as part of a supportive and caring team of cancer psychologists. You will provide highly specialist inpatient and outpatient psychological assessments and interventions to teenage and young people with cancer, and psychological advice, supervision, consultancy and training to multi-disciplinary colleagues. The cancer psychology team sees patients with a solid tumour, and collaborates very closely with colleagues in haematology who provide psychological care for patients with a blood cancer.

The cancer related concerns will include helping individuals prepare for complex treatments and associated decision-making, enhance their ability to cope with cancer related fatigue and appearance change; cancer related traumatic stress, managing fears of recurrence or cancer spread, and living well with treatable but not curable cancer.

The post holder will be responsible for linking into the TYA MDT on behalf of the service to provide consultation and psychological supervision to colleagues, and main psychologist for those tumour sites.

This is a role where you will be able to use a full range of clinical psychology skills, and make a significant difference to the lives of people living with cancer. There is lots of scope for career development: from CPD and developing further skills in the specialty and supporting service development and innovation, to the chance to contribute to research, or policy work in psychological care for people with cancer.

The post holder will be employed by Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust. The post may comprise of a mix of onsite and remote working involving some virtual appointments where appropriate and applicants must have the personal qualities and resilience to be able to work in a busy acute trust setting.

Person specification

**Qualifications**:
Essential criteria
- Post-graduate doctoral level (or equivalent) training in clinical psychology as accredited by the BPS.
- HCPC registration

Desirable criteria
- Post-doctoral training in one or more additional specialised areas of psychological practice.

Experience

Essential criteria
- Work as a trainee or qualified Clinical Psychologist in Clinical Health Psychology or with issues of health and illness
- Experience of work with teenagers and / or young adults
- Experience of exercising clinical responsibility for clients’ psychological care and treatment
- Experience of teaching, training and/or professional and clinical supervision
- Experience of working in an acute hospital setting

Desirable criteria
- Experience of representing psychology within the context of multi-disciplinary care
- Experience of conducting clinical research and service evaluation
- Experience of assessing and treating patients with cancer

Communication

Essential criteria
- Well-developed skills in the ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, highly technical, and clinically sensitive information to clients, their families, carers and other professional colleagues both within and outside the NHS
- Skills in providing consultation to other professional and non-professional groups
- Knowledge of legislation in relation to the client group and mental health
- Commitment to support the Trust’s Values

Desirable criteria
- Experience of working within a multicultural framework
- Knowledge of the theory and practice of highly specialised psychological therapies or assessment methodologies

Analytical & judgement

Essential criteria
- Skills in the use of complex methods of psychological assessment, intervention and management
- Doctoral level knowledge of research design and methodology, including both quantitative and qualitative methods

- Knowledge of complex multivariate data analysis as practiced within the field of clinical psychology
