About our Pharmacy Service

This is a cross-site role covering both our acute sites at Colchester & Ipswich Hospitals. ESNEFT boasts a new Aseptics Pharmacy Manufacturing Unit at our Colchester site.

The main duties will include coordinating a team of staff ensuring that the requirements for Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP), Good Clinical Trials Practice (GCP) and Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) in the manufacture of medicines are satisfied.

The successful applicant will ensure that the regulatory requirements and standards set by the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) are met for both the Production Facilities & Manufacturing Specials, Clinical Trials and Wholesale dealing licences held by the Trust. They will also be a Releasing Officer for Specials made under the licence, including named-patient items.

Applicants could be a registered Pharmacist, a registered Pharmacy Technician or a Science graduate. Significant previous GMP experience and relevant postgraduate qualifications are essential, and GCP experience is desirable.
- To be the Head of Pharmacy Quality Assurance (HPQA) for East Suffolk and North Essex NHS Foundation Trust (ESNEFT).
- To be the Deputy Chair of the ESNEFT Research Governance Group, overseeing clinical and scientific research across the Trust.
- To be the Lead for Pharmacy Research and Innovation.
- The post-holder will provide the professional leadership to the Pharmacy department to ensure regulatory compliance for all licences.

1. Acts as the Head of Pharmacy Quality Assurance (HPQA) for ESNEFT, named as Head of Quality Control and/or Qualified Person on the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) Manufacturers’ Specials and Investigational Medicinal Products (IMP) Licences, providing the quality assurance leadership and expertise, in conjunction with the Pharmacy Production Manager, to ensure satisfactory standards of practice and maintenance of the licensed status.
2. Acts as the HPQA for ESNEFT; named on the MHRA Wholesale Dealer’s Licence, providing the quality assurance leadership and expertise to ensure satisfactory standards of practice and maintenance of the licensed status.
3. Deputises for the ESNEFT Board Director of Strategy, Research and Innovation, in ensuring research governance standards are maintained and that the Trust’s Research Strategy is implemented across ESNEFT.
