Theatre Clinical Educator

We are looking for a progressive, enthusiastic and motivated theatre clinical educator, who will be able to promote a learning environment that optimizes each learner’s clinical development. You will also participate in delivering our in-house education programmes both coordinating and teaching on it for all new starters and trainees.
The role promises to be both interesting and challenging. You will be involved in supporting all new starters through the Theatre induction programme and be able to identify training needs, construct training sessions, and undertake competency based clinical skills.
We are in search of a dynamic individual to lead the development of multi-professional learning within our esteemed clinical environment. Your mandate will be to champion our Trust's safety agenda, ensuring its seamless integration into our theatre operations through meticulous induction and training protocols.
However, your role extends beyond procedural matters. We require a leader capable of inspiring and guiding our staff and students, offering clinical supervision and support to nurture their professional growth and maximise their potential.
As the face of our theatres during recruitment and selection activities, you will uphold the principles of fairness and equity, while actively promoting our facilities as the premier destination for driven healthcare professionals.
Furthermore, your responsibilities include the mentorship of apprentice ODPs, trainee ODPs, and students across all theatre departments, ensuring they receive comprehensive training and support to excel in their roles.

As you may know the Government passed legislation requiring vaccination as a condition of deployment which was due to come in from 1 April 2022. However on the 31 Jan 2022 the Secretary of State has announced that this is being reconsidered. Whilst we wait for further guidance, as a Trust we have made the decision to continue to gather vaccine status during our pre-employment stages should you be made an offer, no offer would be conditional upon you having a vaccine but we need to make you aware that if the decision is taken by the government to implement mandated Covid vaccines in the future then your employment may be at risk if you do not have these.
Vaccination against continues to be the best way to protect yourself, your family, your colleagues and, of course, your patients from the virus. NHS England and NHS Improvement have always been clear that staff have a professional duty to be vaccinated.
To Coordinate the delivery of locally based mandatory training as identified by the Trust training metrics to all staff groups within theatre departments.
To e nsure the the Training Assistants have clear objectives and that the targets for training are realistic and achievable.
To l iaise with the Trust Medical Device Officer and Clinical Managers to ensure delivery and facilitation of medical device training to all staff groups.
To develop and deliver a robust induction programme for all new starters in the departments, enhancing basic theatre skills and underpinning knowledge. Assist in the development of training / skills based learning packages to support new and existing staff in the theatre clinical environment utilising research based best practice.
To w ork collaboratively with trust educators to deliver International Nurse Induction.
To p roactively engage with developments in theatre practice and safety initiatives that promote safer surgery e.g. WHO Checklist, team brief.
To promote an opportunity for development by recognising, individual learning needs and adapting training to ensure equality of opportunities to achieve. Provide advice and support for staff wishing to undertake further study / revalidation. Identify departmental learning needs and organise teaching sessions during audit.
Support theatre Clinical Managers in managing those members of staff who are failing to meet the expectations of their role.
