**About us**:
The Office of General Counsel is a new function within UCL comprising Legal Services, Data Protection and Freedom of Information, Governance and Risk and Compliance offices.

The Office of General Counsel provides strategic legal and governance advice to the institution and is tasked with creating and operating appropriate risk and compliance frameworks and assurance processes to support UCL’s mission, strategy and values.

A key element in the development of the Office of General Counsel is the establishment of a new Risk and Compliance function, that will work closely and collaboratively across the institution, to develop and implement effective risk and compliance activities.

**About the role**:
The main purpose of this job is to drive the creation and implementation of an effective Risk and Compliance function; and to manage and support existing risk management activities within the organisation.

The Chief Risk and Compliance Officer will work closely with key stakeholders throughout including the General Counsel, Chief Finance Officer, Vice President Operations, Vice President Strategy, Vice President (Research, Innovation and Global Engagement) as well as ensuring effective engagement across the institution as the plans develop. This will include engaging with the University Management Committee, Audit Committee and Council and other governance bodies.

This is a role offering a great deal of variety and challenge. It also presents an opportunity to join a key department in one of the world’s top universities.

The post is available on a fixed-term basis for 18 months in the first instance.

**Please note**: This role does not meet the eligibility requirements for a Skilled Worker Visa certificate of sponsorship under UK Visas and Immigration legislation. Therefore UCL will not be able to sponsor individuals who require right to work in the UK to carry out this role.

**About you**:
For this job you will need experience of operating and influencing at a senior management and board level as well as experience of having led a significant change programme within a complex organisation.

You will need to demonstrate experience of creating and developing a risk management and compliance framework within a large, complex organisation.
