**Job description**:

- Are you interested in how the UK interacts and collaborates with the global scientific and innovation community?
- Would you like to help BEIS strengthen this relationship and promote a joined-up approach between BEIS and other government departments so we can make the most of the UK's global science and innovation opportunities? If so, then this may be the job for you
- The post-holder will be joining a small and friendly strategy team sitting within the wider Global Research & Innovation Team (GRI). A big part of GRI's work is managing the global relationships at the heart of the Government's ambitions for the UK to become a collaborative science superpower. From big players such as the US and China, to smaller, agile partners like Singapore and Switzerland, the GRI team provides the direct and considered sponsorship these relationships need to ensure international opportunities for the UK's research sector are maximised. In parallel with this bilateral engagement there is also a need to step back and take an overview of the UK's stance on international S&I collaboration (in a nutshell.. what to prioritise, with who, how, and when) and work to better position it for the future - this is the focus of the team that the post-holder will be joining.
- The post-holder will support work on a number of live, high-profile, and impactful areas. This includes contributing to the design and implementation of major new schemes to support international collaboration being developed as a response to the continuing delay to UK participation in EU research programmes. This work, known as 'Horizon Alternatives' planning, is a core focus of BEIS Ministers and will involve engagement with multiple teams across government and external stakeholders. These plans are of crucial importance to the health of the UK research sector and the post-holder will get the chance to shape this work while gaining experience and understanding of large-scale government policy development. More broadly, the post-holder will also support interdepartmental work to co-ordinate global research policy, engaging across Whitehall to promote and defend BEIS' interests and priorities, build mutually-supportive relationships with interested colleagues in other parts of government, and contribute to effective whole-of-government strategies for global research.**Person specification**:

- Manage relationships across-department, across-government, and externally to promote BEIS' global research policy interests and priorities.
- Contribute to joined-up thinking on global research policy including on the implementation of the Integrated Review and other cross-government strategies.
- Support the design, financial planning, and implementation of new research support schemes to optimise their value to the sector and UK policy objectives.
- Develop the public communications approach for domestic and international audiences.
