Cardiac Diagnostics Assistant

Applications are invited from patient focused individuals who would like the opportunity to work in a busy department performing highly specialist cardiac diagnostic investigations.

Perform a basic range of cardiac investigations, mostly covering 12 lead electrocardiographs (ECG), also includes fitting and removing 24 hour ECG monitors, blood pressure monitors and event recorders. Performing of cardiac tests includes appropriate skin preparation and correct electrode placement.
Part of the role will also involve administration duties within the department on a rolling basis.
- To accurately perform a range of routine and urgent cardiac investigations including 12 lead Electrocardiographs (ECG’s).
- To professionally fit and remove longer term ambulatory ECG and blood pressure monitors on both out-patients and in-patients.
- To obtain accurate test results from a wide cross section of patients, maintaining patient dignity and confidentiality at all times.
- Follows set policies by both trust management and the Society for Cardiological Science and Technology.
- To demonstrate diagnostic tests and support peers including Cardiac Physiology students and other medical staff.
- Responsible for the maintenance, calibration, and general care of diagnostic equipment and to organise servicing and repairs when necessary.
- To competently perform daily checks on the crash trolley including testing of the defibrillator.
- Providing valuable support to senior echocardiography staff, including chaperoning, preparing patient’s for their echocardiogram, and diligently recording patient height and weight.
To assist with general clerical duties including telephone and in-person queries, and booking / amending of clinical appointments.

Excellent communication skills are required.
- Must be educated to GCSE (or equivalent) standard.
- Work towards completing the Certificate in Electrocardiography exam as set by the Society of Cardiological Science and Technology.
- You may also need to travel between Trust premises as required for the performance of your duties. You may also be expected to work at any of the trust sites including the Metrocentre diagnostic hub.
- Follows set policies and guidelines as set by both trust management and the Society for Cardiological Science and Technology.
- May be required to demonstrate to other health professionals and medical students how to perform a 12 lead ECG and fit other relevant ambulatory monitoring.
