Senior Clinical Fellow in Endoscopy

An exciting opportunity has arisen for Senior Fellow to join our thriving Endoscopy team at BHRUT, we are looking for someone with an interest in Gastroenterology, keen to learn and who works well as part of a team.
BHRUT is one of the largest Associate Teaching Hospitals, providing acute care for over 700,000 people from across 2 main sites - Queens and King George Hospitals, as well as peripheral sites at Barking, Dagenham and Brentwood. We are a major Neurosciences centre, and are undergoing significant further development as a tertiary referral centre for North East London and Essex, including additional critical care capacity.
Gastroenterology at BHR is a busy and thriving department providing a broad range of services for patients with all gastrointestinal disorders.
Jointly led by specialist medical and surgical gastroenterologists and supported by specialist nurses in many fields, gastroenterology services include rapid access to diagnostics for patients with potential GI malignancies through endoscopy and colorectal bleed clinics. BHR is a regional cancer centre for the diagnosis and treatment of upper GI malignancies and colorectal cancer. We are fully accredited for training in endoscopy. We provide assessment, treatment and continuing care for patients with all gastrointestinal and liver conditions. The Endoscopy unit at Queens Hospital is also a nominated and chosen site for the NHS Bowel Cancer Screening Programme.
Post holders will be expected to be able to perform diagnostic flexible sigmoidoscopy, colonoscopy and OGD independently and hold JAG accreditation (where applicable). The post holder would also become exposed to a wide range of advanced endoscopic techniques, including advanced polypectomy and endoscopic mucosal resection (EMR), combined laparoscopic-endoscopic therapies, ERCP, EUS, cystogastrostomy, upper and lower GI stenting, transnasal endoscopy (TNE), video capsule endoscopy (VCE), double balloon enteroscopy (DBE), surveillance of patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), and GI laser palliative therapy.
There are weekly educational meetings (journal club), and a complex polyp MDT, that the post-holder would be expected to attend. In addition, the successful applicant would be expected to take part in the departmental audits and any clinical and training courses that are running in endoscopy.
The post-holder may be called on to provide clinical assistance to an area outside endoscopy (helping with ward cover). Participation in the on-call Gastroenterology/GI bleed rota be helpful and explored at the interview setting. Applicants will be expected to work flexibly to help with the cover and back-filling of endoscopy lists, vetting of referrals, emergency endoscopy, and there will be cross-site work performing endoscopy lists at both Queen’s and King George’s Hospitals.
Our Trust is one of the largest acute trusts in the country and the biggest provider of acute healthcare services in NHS North East London and the City (NELC).Our dedicated workforce of 6,500 staff and volunteers serve our local population of around 750,000, from a wide range of social and ethnic groups.
We operate two Emergency Departments (ED) alongside other acute services. We cover all the major specialties of large district general hospitals as well as a joint Cancer Centre with Bart’s Health NHS Trust, a regional Neurosciences Centre, and a dedicated breast care service at King George Hospital. General healthcare and cancer services are also provided to South West Essex, and specialist neurosciences services are provided to the whole of Essex.
We operate out of two main hospitals, King George Hospital and Queen’s Hospital, providing complex care and specialist services for the population of outer North East London and Essex. Both sites provide high quality accommodation and have good transport links by road and public transport.
Staff restaurant which is open 7am-11pm 7 days a week.
Annual Leave starts at 27 days a year plus bank holidays.

The duties of the appointee also include administrative and management duties appropriate to the post at BHRUT and the post holder will contribute to the management processes of the hospital.
The appointee will be required to participate in all clinical governance activities related to the relevant departments of both trusts.
The post holder is expected to participate in the clinical effectiveness activities and to encourage and foster improvements in the quality and standards of clinical services.
