Regional Coordinator

**Paid Role: Regional Coordinator**
Two days per week during term time (60 days annually)
£30k pro rata: 18 month fixed term contract
**About Us**
The Children’s Book Project is a registered charity that directly tackles book poverty and the attendant inequalities in well-being, self esteem and educational outcomes amongst children with little or no access to books. We do this by gifting beautiful, contemporary pre-loved books to children in a range of settings including schools, foodbanks, prisons and women's groups; focussing on choice and ownership - both vital in creating empowered readers and reading communities. We have an incredible team of talented and multi-skilled volunteers who work with passion to put books into the hands of children who might not otherwise have access to book ownership.
**Our national model**
We began in London in 2011, grew slowly and now have an efficient delivery model that gifts over 240k books across the capital each year. As well as established donation points, we have a busy calendar of book drives conducted by community groups and schools. These provide us with a steady supply of beautiful books that we sort, select, pack and gift onwards to schools, community groups and prisons.
All of these have an above average level of deprivation.
Fuelled by ambition to do more, our UK national model commenced in 2020 and within the year gifted 40k books across the regions. There is now significant appetite and opportunity to improve the reach, impact and quality of what we do across the UK, which is where our new role of Regional Coordinator fits in.
**The opportunity**
There couldn’t be a more exciting time to join us here at The Children’s Book Project. To realise our national model, we are looking for a team of Regional Coordinators to set up and run our operations in Birmingham, Leeds and Oxford. Each Regional Coordinator will preferably be based in or close to that city in order to support occasional site visits and to build strong, meaningful and sustainable relationships with donors, recipient organisations, local communities and stakeholders. The Regional Coordinators will establish, grow and make real the impacts and power of what we do.
**What does the role involve?**
Working with drive and autonomy, your primary role is to champion our vision and to establish the successful operations of The Children’s Book Project in your region. You will ensure that the full lifecycle of what we do is delivered with passion and excellence, that workflows are consistent with the established model and brand and that the values and ethos of the Children’s Book Project are reflected in all interactions you have.
You will be creative and ideas oriented and will become part of a wonderful team. As part of your core activities, you will:
- Champion and raise awareness of the Children’s Book Project across your area; building and developing local networks to best deliver our goals
- Recruit and support donor schools and organisations to host book drives
- Coordinate the storage, sorting, packing and distribution of books to recipient schools and organisations
- Provide advice and materials to recipient organisations to make their gifting experience meaningful, fun and impactful
- Build and manage a successful and motivated cohort of volunteers ensuring adherence to all Health & Safety guidelines
- Contribute ideas and feedback on success, opportunity and improvements as we grow the national model
- Manage all data in accordance with up to date Data Protection and GDPR guidance
- Assist in leveraging opportunities to secure local funding
- Manage social media and press engagement as relevant to your region
**Who are we looking for?**
Firstly, that our aims and ethos really resonate with you. To be successful in the role, you will:
- Be highly organised, have a can-do approach to work with experience of managing projects and multiple stakeholders
- Have excellent time management skills and a track record of meeting deadlines and achieving goals
- Have a process-driven approach with good IT & systems skills
- Be an excellent communicator - both written and verbal. Be able to adapt and create promotional materials
- Demonstrate the ability to story-tell, to engage, secure and sustain a wide range of stakeholders
- Be a builder, with entrepreneurial spirit, capable of adapting, pivoting, prioritising and problem-solving
- Have solid people management skills; able to support, respect, value and motivate those around you
- Be professional, gracious, inclusive, collaborative and collegiate - continuously creating positive experiences and connections
Some understanding of the UK school system would be advantageous
**What we offer you**
This is a fantastic opportunity to meet new people and be part of a dynamic grassroots charity with growing reach and big dreams; using your talents for a great cause
You will become part of a team where we all believe passionately in giving
