This is an exciting time to be working as a Civilian Disclosure Advisor for the Metropolitan Police Service. **Key Responsibilities**

You will be available to act as a resource to advise Investigating Officers/Officer In Charge/Supervisors working on disclosure matters as required in investigations including Child Abuse and Sexual Offences.

Your duties will include performing the designated ‘Disclosure Champion’ role.

This will aid compliance with the Criminal Proceedings and Investigations Act 1996 and other relevant legislation and guidance.

A requirement of the role may involve reviewing extreme/graphic material related to Child Abuse and Sexual Offences investigations. The role holder must be content with this.

**Essential Criteria**
- An excellent knowledge and understanding of the Criminal Procedure & Investigation Act 1996 and current Code of Practice, Attorney General guidelines on Disclosure and the Code to the Crown Prosecutors. This is required to ensure officers are advised appropriately by the role holder on disclosure matters in child abuse & sexual offence investigations following. This will aid compliance with the Criminal Proceedings and Investigations Act 1996 and other relevant legislation and guidance.
- This will include excellent knowledge and understanding of the Criminal Procedure & Investigation Act 1996 + Code of Practice general principles (Record, Retain, Review, Reveal - it is the prosecutor whose duty it is to Disclose).
- Proven ability in understanding the creation of MG6 series documents with sufficiency of detail to be examined by professional partners (CPS / Barristers - Prosecution & Defence). This is required to ensure the role holder can appropriately advise officers on MG6 series creation, and to quality assure schedules as required, to assist with ensuring effective progression of the case
- Completion of CILEX National accredited Disclosure Qualification

**Desirable Criteria**
- Knowledge of Investigations - if possible major or complex. The role holder will need to draw upon an appropriate level of experience in order to undertake a measured and effective review of all cases to provide the proper advice sought by the officer.
- An inquisitive and thinking mind-set. It will be necessary for the role holder to utilise this when reviewing cases to provide the best advice input in relation to Disclosure Strategy, Early Investigative Advice and other disclosure related matters.
- Effective communication skills, being able to communicate at all levels clearly and accurately. The role holder will be required to demonstrate their communication skills in 1-2-1 situations and group meetings - with different ranks/grades - in relation to discussing specific cases, case workload, performing the ‘Disclosure Champion’ role and intervening in potential discontinuance cases.A proven ability to work on own initiative and to exercise sound judgement. The role holder will be providing important advice directly to officers without the requirement for this to be ‘signed off’ by a line manager.
- Excellent organisational skills, which enables them to prioritise their workload to fulfil tasks to a consistently high standard within challenging timescales. The role holder will need to review (often complex) cases in a timely manner and ensure a high quality service to officers, and balance this with servicing other pressing matters - including the requirement for focused intervention with potential discontinuances (related to disclosure) in order to help maintain the prosecution
