London, United Kingdom Technopolis Ltd Full time

**Location: London or Brighton, UK**

**Position: Full time, permanent**

**Salary: £35k-£40k (depending on experience)**

Technopolis UK is looking to recruit a Policy **Consultant, with a special interest in communications policy **to join our UK team. The team at Technopolis works across a wide variety of policy areas including science and innovation, research, enterprise, higher education, communications, green economy, health and life sciences and development. You will be working to support project managers across all our thematic areas, but with a specific focus on communications policy to deliver studies, evaluations and impact assessments.

The successful applicant will have demonstrated quantitative and/or qualitative analytical skills, excellent written and verbal communication skills, the ability to work effectively as a member of multidisciplinary teams, and a strong commitment to our core values of quality and integrity.

Applicants are expected to have at least 2 years prior research, policy or consulting experience.

**About Technopolis**

**Technopolis Group** is an international research and consulting organisation with a 30+ year track record in policy research and evaluation. Our clients are predominantly public or third sector organisations and include national ministries and agencies, regional governments, European Commission DGs and numerous international bodies like the OECD or the World Bank. Our 310+ staff are based in offices throughout Europe, Africa (Ivory Coast) and Latin America (Colombia). We have strong growth in our economic consultancy, and with a growing presence working with clients in Africa and Latin America.

Our core areas of policy expertise include research and innovation, health and life sciences, energy and environment higher education and communication. Our technical expertise spans the full extent of the social research methods used in policy evaluation, from classic econometrics and cost benefit analyses to realist methods like contribution analysis and on to more prospective techniques like technology foresight.

We are a mid-sized, staff-owned consultancy with strong values and a culture of openness: we bring together the talent and enthusiasm of our multi-cultural, multi-lingual staff from across the globe, and provide a stimulating, learning-based environment for all.

**The role**

The types of work we do in this area include:

- Evaluation of public communication campaigns
- Studies about the role of media
- Advising public sector bodies on how they can better communicate results of their policies
- Communication-related research in other projects (for example exploring target audiences of research programmes and their impact in social media)

Consultancy assignments typically involve teams of 3-5 people carried out over a 6-12 months, but with some smaller projects and some very much larger.

People work on several projects in parallel, possibly in slightly different policy domains, to ensure the cross-fertilisation of experiences and research methods. It is an exciting and intellectually rewarding working environment as well as underpinning public accountability and contributing socially-useful insights to our clients.

Our communications policy evaluations are generally for the European Commission, however project work may be carried out for clients in the UK, elsewhere in Europe or internationally and will often involve collaboration with specialist consultancies and academic research groups located around the world. Under normal circumstances, there would be plentiful opportunities for travel, however, the international and multi-cultural quality of our project teams remains, even with the current covid restrictions.

**What are we looking for**

We are looking for someone to join our team who has proven experience working within a consulting environment, who can manage smaller project teams, who is curious, judicious and has a strong work ethic and a thirst for knowledge.
- An affinity with communications policy and knowledge of current developments in the field
- A good command of qualitative and / or quantitative evaluation methods
- Highly computer literate (e.g. MS Office, statistics packages)
- Good time-management skills, to ensure work is completed in line with required QA procedures and client timetables
- Self-motivation, intellectual curiosity and an ability to work independently and across different disciplines
- Good team-working skills and a confidence in leading people and in being led
- Experience of working with clients, ideally public sector, and in a client-focused environment
- Have excellent oral and written communication skills in English

Other desirable skills include:

- Very good understanding of social media (interpretation of social media performance, monitoring of social media)
- Very good understanding of webanalytics (monitoring and analysing of traffic to websites)
- Command of social media tools, such as Meltwater,
