Our data team are growing and we have a newly created opportunity for a Head of Data Science. Reporting to the Business Intelligence Director, you’ll play a critical role in growing our data science capabilities. You'll be responsible for building the data science department from the ground up, working collaboratively with third-party partners to leverage data-driven insights and solutions. **Location**: Portsmouth or London base, hybrid working applies with min 2 days in the office and 3 at home.

**Where do you fit in?**

You’ll join a high performing data team in a business that puts data at the front and centre. We are investing heavily on our data and looking to build on our existing data science capability by appointing you to lead the way You’ll have an opportunity to define our data science department vision, strategy and roadmap. You’ll keep close to the business stakeholders, making sure you understand business objectives and how data science can drive value and impact. You’ll have an opportunity to select appropriate third party
- partners, tools and technologies. You’ll also develop processes and methodologies to drive best practice, whilst joining a high performance Data & Insights function at the heart of Checkatrade. What about AI and Machine Learning? We are keen advocates You’ll own the development of associated models and algorithms to solve complex problems such as demand forecasting, customer segmentation and recommendation systems. You’ll work particularly closely with our product and engineering functions to integrate data science solutions into our platform.

**What do you need to succeed?**
- Previous experience in a similar Senior/ Head of Data Science role including proven track record in building and leading data science teams.
- Strong knowledge and hands-on experience in programming languages such as Python or R, as well as in relevant data science libraries and tools.
- You’ll be highly skilled in machine learning techniques, statistical modelling, data visualization, and experimentation methodologies. Your track record of successfully delivering ML models that drive business growth and improve user experiences speaks for itself.
- Experience working with third-party partners, vendors, or consultants to augment data science capabilities.
- Top notch communication and stakeholder management skills. You’ll be at ease conveying complex concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences
