We are seeking to recruit a motivated and enthusiastic Assistant Psychologist to join Gwelfor High Dependency Unit (locked rehabilitation service) and Step Down houses, that provide less intensive environments. These services are based at Cefn Coed Hospital Site and are part of the rehabilitation and recovery service (R&R) across Swansea Bay University Health Board (SBUHB). The R&R service emphasises the development of practice-based evidence and service evaluation in order to inform service development, delivery and quality improvement.

Gwelfor High Dependency Unit and Step Down Houses provide a rehabilitation and recovery focus to adults coping with significant mental health issues and who present with rehabilitation needs. Gwelfor is an 18 bedded, rehabilitation ward for adult males with a mental health diagnosis and for whom, some present with forensic histories. The Step Down Houses (Ty Gwanwyn and Carreg Sarn) are located next door to the Gwelfor unit, and support for more independent living for adult males. The services are MDT focused, supportive and collaborative.

The principal duties of the Assistant Psychologist will include gathering information (including from structured interview / formal assessments), setting up and maintaining databases, analysing data and contributing to evaluation, audit, training, consultation and dissemination of psychosocial information. Further duties will include drafting summaries, undertaking psychological assessment, providing time limited highly structured interventions (individual and group work), developing resources, contributing to the delivery of multidisciplinary programs, under the supervision of a Registered Psychologist.

The health board actively encourages and supports research and Continuing Professional Development (CPD). The post holder will have access to regular clinical supervision, with opportunities for training. We have strong links with local universities, including the clinical psychology programme at the University of Cardiff and forensic psychology course/s at Cardiff Metropolitan University and University of Exeter.

This post will support the Lead Consultant Clinical Psychologist in delivering a psychological service across these rehabilitation services. They will work according to plans agreed by the Consultant Clinical Psychologist and within the overall framework of team policies and procedures. The post holder will join a vibrant R&R Psychology team, that supports a trauma-informed, strengths-based and collaborative approach, drawing on a range of psychological models and approaches, including recovery, positive psychology, compassion-focused, good lives and systemic.

Applicants should have a previous experience of working as an Assistant Psychologist; and previous experience of working within an adult mental health or forensic setting is desirable.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.
