We are seeking to recruit a motivated and enthusiastic Assistant Psychologist to join Gwelfor High Dependency Unit (locked rehabilitation service) and Step Down houses, that provide less intensive environments. These services are based at Cefn Coed Hospital Site and are part of the rehabilitation and recovery service (R&R) across Swansea Bay University Health Board (SBUHB). The R&R service emphasises the development of practice-based evidence and service evaluation in order to inform service development, delivery and quality improvement.

Gwelfor is an 18 bedded, rehabilitation ward for adult males with a mental health diagnosis and for whom, some present with forensic histories. The Step Down Houses (Ty Gwanwyn and Carreg Sarn) are located next door to the Gwelfor unit, and support for more independent living for adult males. The services are MDT focused, supportive and collaborative.

The principal duties of the Assistant Psychologist will include gathering information (including from structured interview / formal assessments), setting up and maintaining databases, analysing data and contributing to evaluation, audit, training, consultation and dissemination of psychosocial information. Further duties will include drafting summaries, undertaking psychological assessment, providing time limited highly structured interventions (individual and group work), developing resources, contributing to the delivery of multidisciplinary programs, under the supervision of a Registered Psychologist.

The health board actively encourages and supports research and Continuing Professional Development (CPD). The post holder will have access to regular clinical supervision, with opportunities for training. We have strong links with local universities, including the clinical psychology programme at the University of Cardiff and forensic psychology course/s at Cardiff Metropolitan University and University of Exeter.
