The post holder will, under the supervision of the Lead Consultant Clinical Neuropsychologist and other senior neuropsychologists, provide an assistant psychology service to the Traumatic Brain Injury Service and the General Neuropsychology Service (1WTE).

They will contribute to multidisciplinary neurorehabilitation programs in community and inpatient settings working with adults that have a brain injury, or other neuro-condition and families.

This will entail the delivery of neuropsychological intervention one-to-one with clients, with families and in group settings. The post will also include carrying out clinical interviews and neuropsychological assessments.

The post holder is required to work closely with other health professionals, liaise with other agencies and provide teaching/training to other professionals and carers.

Part of the work will take place in the community across a large geographical area, therefore access to own transport is essential.


To assist in the formulation and delivery of care plans involving the psychological treatment and/or management of a client's problems, under the supervision of a qualified professional psychologist, in both community and in-patient/residential settings.

To assist in the coordination and running of therapeutic groups.

To work with other staff to assess inpatients and community patients, and review their care in preparation for multi-disciplinary reviews.

To assist in the development of a psychologically based framework of understanding and care to the benefit of all clients of the service, in any setting where care takes place.

To attend and contribute to multi-disciplinary meetings as appropriate.

In common with all clinical psychologists, to receive regular clinical supervision in accordance with professional practice guidelines.

To gain wider experience of professional psychology within the NHS over and above that provided within the principal service area where the post holder is employed.

To develop skills and competencies that assist in the delivery of current duties. To contribute to the training and support of other staff in psychological care.

The post holder will need to ensure that they are up to date with evidence based practice and continued professional development and that they will make optimal use of supervision for learning and development.

This would also include doing literature searches, attending courses and conferences as appropriate and do reading of relevant literature.

To assist in the design and implementation of audit and research projects.
To undertake data collection, analysis, the production of reports and summaries, using IT and statistical programmes.

To undertake searches of evidence-based literature and research to assist qualified clinical psychologists in evidence based practice in individual work and work with other team members.


The post holder needs to keep up-to-date accurate notes in clients' files, fill in relevant Health Board and team documents and forms and develop material for group as well as individual and family interventions.

Regular use of computer and other electronic equipment will be part of carrying out administrative tasks and to develop rehabilitation material.

This may entail use of recording equipment and creating documents using a range of computer software.


To contribute to the development and maintenance of the highest professional standards of practice, through active participation in internal and external CPD training and development programmes, in consultation with the post holder's professional and team/operational manager(s).

To maintain the highest standards of clinical record keeping and report writing in accordance with professional codes of practice of the British Psychological Society and Health Board policies and procedures.

It is essential that the person is aware of health and safety in the work place, including risk assessment and risk management and will need to follow team and Health Board guidelines in this respect.
