Swindon, United Kingdom Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC) Full time

**The Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC)**

**Funding Officer**

**Salary**:£25,702 per annum
**Hours**:Full time / part time (minimum 0.8 hours FTE)
**Contract Type**:Open Ended
**Location**:Polaris House, Swindon, Wiltshire
**Grade**:UKRI Band C
**Closing Date**:12/03/2023

**About the Role**

The Operations team is looking to recruit a Funding Officer on an open-ended basis. We may make further appointments to administrative Band C posts in the Operations team off the back of this recruitment should roles become available.

The Funding Officer role is a fundamentally administrative one, tasked with the operational delivery of the team’s objectives. This exposure to the broad and varied work of the AHRC will provide you with an excellent understanding of the national and international research funding landscape and allow you to develop a long-term career path within grants funding. The core purpose of the role can be summarised as follows:
More generally we would expect Funding Officers to engage with the following tasks and responsibilities from time to time:

- Support the Peer Review Process and grant lifecycle from end to end
- Engaging directly with applicants to provide answers to policy and process queries and liaising with the communications team to help publicise calls and funding opportunities where relevant
- Support the development, organisation and delivery of AHRC events, workshops and meetings, working with colleagues to secure venues, arrange logistics and deliver secretariat support
- Engage with and support improvement activities seeking to refine processes, policy and ways of working within both your team and the wider organisation.

As well as playing a central role in the operational delivery of AHRC’s activity, there will be opportunities for you to engage with the broader, strategic work of the AHRC and contribute to its delivery plan.

**Essential Shortlisting and Interviewing criteria**
In addition to an enthusiasm for the importance of arts and humanities research, you should demonstrate that:

- You have excellent organisational and administrative skills, and the ability to work flexibly and multi-task with good attention to detail, often at pace
- You have sound numeric skills, including handling and analysing data sensitively, accurately, and responsibly
- You have excellent written communication skills and can draft and understand complex written documents and interpret them clearly
- You can work independently, think creatively, solve problems, and make effective decisions
- You are a great team player and can provide support to colleagues, sharing knowledge and information, and contributing towards the achievements of your team and the wider organisation
- You are an excellent communicator with good interpersonal skills, working effectively with colleagues at different levels both inside and outside the organisation, while being an effective ambassador for the AHRC
- You have a good working knowledge of IT.

**In return, you’ll gain**:

- In-depth knowledge of the UK and international arts and humanities research landscape, and an understanding of the AHRC’s contribution to this research
- Opportunities to work with colleagues across UK Research & Innovation (UKRI) and other research funders
- Experience in research administration and an understanding of the UK higher education sector, working directly with the academic community
- Opportunities to work within the disciplines and thematic areas of the research that we fund.
