We have an exciting opportunity within the NHS Supply Chain for a General Ledger Accountant to join our Finance team.
**What does a General Ledger Accountant do at NHS Supply Chain?**The Accounting Team will deliver accurate accounting and reporting across various operating units, to internal and external stakeholders to support timely decision making. In addition, the Accounting Team will be responsible for ensuring robust controls aroundnumbers reported in the financial statements.Accountants will take responsible for specific operating units and ensure that numbers included in the general ledger are accurate, timely and can be supported.
- Processing and reconciliation of financial transactions and, follows processes, procedures and controls, to ensure transactions are recorded in accordance with agreed accounting standards.
- Supervise treasury activities to ensure sufficient funds to meet working capital requirements
- Produce of financial reports and supporting analysis in accordance with agreed standards and timelines
- Act as a functional expert to drive continuous improvement and provide guidance and advice to the Team

**What skills, qualifications and qualities do I need to be successful?**:

- A professional accountancy qualification (ACA/ACCA/CIMA or equivalent)
- 1 to 3 years’ post-qualified experience within Financial Accounting
- Core finance knowledge, with in-depth awareness and understanding of accounting standards and technical guidance
- Ability to produce and review working papers and reconciliations
- Good attention to detail with ability to prioritise and manage a varied workload to meet agreed deadlines
- Intermediate Excel Skills essential (Pivot Tables, Lookup Formulae)
- Oracle R12 experience
- High-level NHS operational awareness
- Process improvement and systems implementations
- Effective problem evaluation and solution skills
- Developing and maintaining effective stakeholder relationships
- Strong communication, negotiating and influencing skills
- Initiative and drive to fix problems at source
- The drive to be self-motivated, well organised and resilient - ideally with experience of working under pressure in a fast-paced environment
