‘The NNUH are recruiting for a Manual Handling Co Ordinator/Trainer to deliver training including patient and non-patient manual handling to new and existing colleagues within the Trust. This will also involve ad-hoc training sessions for other topics as when the need arises to support the health and safety team.

Reporting to the Health and Safety Lead Advisor, you will be responsible for training our staff to a high standard, to ensure they can safely go out into practice. The process for patient manual handling training would entail a six-hour induction session with two-hour refresher sessions, therefore strong communication and delivery skills of the use of equipment such as beds, hoists are essential. You will play a crucial role in the training of staff in the interest of best patient care.

The role will also require at times to be completed outside normal working hours such as evenings and weekends.

Moving and Handling is a key part of the working day for most employees within the health and social care setting, from patient handling which includes supporting complex patients, moving equipment, supplies and if not done safely, can cause serious injury to both patients and staff. Providing other training syllabus such as e.g. Prevention Management and Aggression, Fit Testing may also be required within the role when the need arises.

To provide evidence based, specialist advice on patient / manual handling to staff at all levels.

Communicate and co-operate with all key stakeholders on various issues involving the health and safety of staff, patients and visitors.

Be involved in the development and review of other health and safety policies and procedures.

- To ensure safety of patients by providing advice and recommending equipment to safely manage their manual handling requirements.
- Provision of proactive and reactive manual handling/health and safety advice at all levels within the Trust including risk assessment and incident reporting.
- Design and delivery of relevant and effective manual handling training within the Trust and also for external customers for the purpose of income generation.
- To work with and positively support the Health and Safety team in the continuing promotion of a positive health and safety culture.

Training & Education
- Devise, develop and deliver manual handling training programmes following training needs analysis. This will comprise Induction and Mandatory Update training to groups of multi -disciplinary healthcare staff; area-specific training and involvement in specialist training such as spinal injuries and bariatric handling.
- Utilise problem-solving approaches to create a learning environment in which staff can achieve their learning objectives.
- Develop and implement appropriate learning methodologies to create an inclusive learning environment for all.
- Assess the ability of trainees to demonstrate safe handling practices and provide feedback; advise managers of any concerns with individual or grou
