We are announcing some exciting new opportunities to work as part of the Health Determinants Research Collaboration (HDRC) based at Lambeth Council; also known as Lambeth Health Determinants Research & Evaluation Network (HEART). Lambeth is one of 10 councils across the UK pioneering this exciting new approach.

We’re creating a ‘research culture’ across the Council and with our partners, encouraging and enabling research to be undertaken and used to shape how we influence the wider determinants of health and what we do to reduce health inequalities.

Lambeth HEART defines ‘research’ in the broadest sense of the word - how we find things out, share the information with other people and use it to help people live healthier lives. The post holders will be integral members of this new research network as we become a “nationally recognised centre of excellence”.

These roles represent a unique opportunity to join a new, pioneering team, to help grow and shape a new way of doing things and ultimately to have a big impact on outcomes for local people.

We are recruiting two Research Practitioners to lead the development and delivery of Lambeth’s HDRC infrastructure, collaborations and research. These Research Practitioners will have slightly different but complimentary backgrounds and focus, with one focusing on quantitative methods and the other focusing on qualitative or mixed-methods research. Find the qualitative/mixed-methods Research Practitioner role here.

The post holder will work particularly closely with colleagues in partner organisations such as King’s College London and Black Thrive Lambeth. They will support the delivery of research infrastructure that embeds race equity and intersectionality with other protected characteristics. This new programme is designed to develop new ways of doing things and the post holder will need the ability to conceptualise, communicate and implement new ideas and approaches. The post holder will ensure HDRC activities are equitable, diverse and inclusive, and ultimately reduce health inequalities across the borough, particularly for those who experience the poorest outcomes.

**About NIHR**:
The National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) is the nation’s largest funder of health and care research and has a mission to improve the health and wealth of the nation through research. The Health Determinants Research Collaboration (HDRC) is a new element of NIHR research infrastructure funded by its Public Health Programme that will be based in local government. The purpose is to enable local authorities to become more research-active, undertake new research and use existing evidence to inform our decision making, and undertake evaluation activities. There will be a central focus on health inequalities and actions to tackle issues faced by local disadvantaged groups and areas.

**Key duties include:
- Manage and support the development of the research, infrastructure, capability and capacity across the council and it partners.
- Provide the technical expertise (with quantitative or mixed methods skills and experience) for conducting research and managing the interface between the research groups and Lambeth Council.
- Develop collaborations for data infrastructure work with KCL researchers and other research groups on wider health determinants using a range of research methods to form new research initiatives.
- Publish/present findings in research publications and at public facing events in both written and oral format.
- Work in collaboration with the HDRC delivery team to develop research guidelines and training materials within a local government context so capacity can be developed in wider staff and community groups.
- Line manage and support the professional development of more junior research Lambeth HEART staff.

**Job Description & Person Specification
The interview process will involve a short competency-based assessment and interview. The assessment and interviews will be held between w/c 12 th June 2023 and 26 th June 2023.
- Lambeth aims for quality services and equal opportunities for all and is committed to safer recruitment. _
