**Brief Description**:
We’ve a fantastic high-profile role within Network Rail to lead, shape and drive positive change for our Railway as Chief Network Operator. Providing tactical and strategical leadership of the delivery of the operational railway, you will lead the interface for Network Rail with (and not limited to) the ORR, DfT, BTP and other emergency services for matters relating to network and operational and network performance

As a member of the Executive team, within System Operator function you will inspire and lead a large team to deliver a safe, reliable service for our customers. Working across the Rail Industry, you will be responsible for creating and delivering the Network Operating Strategy and Train Performance Strategy along with operating principles and standards and timetable assurance on behalf of the business and wider industry.

Customer and Safety focussed we’re looking for you to drive train performance and other sustainable, operational improvements across the industry. You’ll champion how the operating strategy evolves through industry reform by contributing to and influencing other emerging strategies including for GBR. You’ll be the expert providing advice and guidance across the industry, this includes being co-chair of the Train Service Delivery National Strategy Committee

The essential things you’ll need to succeed in this role
- Senior-level experience of successfully leading front line train service operations and production and delivering a high performing, customer focussed train service
- Experience of cross-industry operational results, and of achieving results through collaborative and intuitive leadership
- Success in converting operating strategy into successful customer-focussed operating outcomes, particularly in relation to performance improvement of train service delivery
- As a senior leader, the ability to provide inspirational thought leadership
- Extensive cross-industry leadership experience at Director level working with industry bodies, governments, customers and regulators.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to represent the business at senior level both internally and with stakeholders at Director level, with Ministers and at Select Committees, comfortable addressing complex questions in these situations.
- Established relationships with regions and passenger and freight train operating companies and able to develop collaborative and productive customer relationships at executive level.
- Demonstrable in-depth knowledge of health and safety management and compliance management processes
- Proven ability to effectively lead, coach, mentor and motivate at all levels within the organisation
- Higher education qualification/Degree in a related discipline or equivalent substantive relevant experience gained within the rail/transport sector
