**About Rex London**

Starting life on a Portobello Road market stall in 1981, Rex London is now an international front runner in design-led giftware. We design and sell a wide range of original gifts and homeware to customers all over the world.

**About the role**

As the product technologist you will be responsible for ensuring that new products are compliant, and remain compliant, with the various regulatory requirements, to ensure our suppliers are kept audited in accordance with our ethical trading policy, and to keep well organised records to back these up. This is a new role as a dedicated position, so you will have the opportunity to build and shape the policies and processes involved.

You will work closely with product development team but will report directly to senior management.

We work across several product categories including toys and food contact items, so the work will be varied and require a wide knowledge base. Our key markets are the EU and UK, but we would like to widen product compliance to cover other markets such as the US.

**What you'll do**
- Liaise with suppliers and the product development team at the early stages to work out what testing will be required and the associated costs, how this may affect commercial viability of the product, and how to keep testing costs down.
- Collaborate with the product development team on packaging design to ensure all the correct warnings are in place.
- Support the customer service team to answer customer queries regarding testing and compliance.
- In addition to the third-party testing, perform your own assessment of product samples to identify any safety, quality or testing concerns.
- Monitor product compliance post-launch, keeping track of test expiry dates and arranging renewal as necessary.
- Compile technical files with all the legally required information for each product.
- Keep a well-organized database of all the various test reports, certificates, and other related files.
- Analyse test reports and produce the required declarations.
- Take charge of EPR reporting in the UK and in overseas markets as may be required.
- Take the lead in future on setting up and maintaining memberships of any product or sourcing related schemes and initiatives as might benefit the company.
- Support, if the situation arises, with the business response to any safety or quality issue which arrive.

**What we’re looking for**
- Experience and knowledge_
- Experience as a Product Technologist or Junior Product Technologist at a consumer goods or toy business in the UK or EU.
- Experience in reading and interpreting test reports and preparing declarations
- A good understanding and knowledge of EU directives/ laws/ regulations, especially in relation testing toy products, such as EN71, EMC, RoHS, and REACH
- Familiarity with US product regulations to help us expand into this market, or the confidence and willingness to develop this area of knowledge.
- A good understanding of the legislative requirements around marks and packaging
- Knowledge of social and ethical compliance standards

**What we offer**
- Salary of £35k - £40k, dependent on experience
