**Job summary**:
The United Kingdom Hydrographic Office (UKHO) is a world-leading agency providing the most comprehensive range of marine geospatial information across the globe. This information is supplied to commercial shipping, defence navies and maritime organisations for the primary purpose of safe navigation and global trade efficiency. It also supports other marine activities including economic development, environmental protection, resource exploration and utilisation, scientific research and security and defence.

This role sits within the Operations Production Engineering and Data Governance Group, which is home to a multi-disciplinary team of specialists in Data Governance, Marine Data Standards, Technical Authoring, Technical Training, Continuous Improvement, Quality Assessment and Leaders all of whom are focused on establishing robust and quality methods for delivering ADMIRALTY Products and Data Services to both our Defence and Commercial Customers.

This role requires regular contact, collaboration and discussions with a wide range of stakeholders across the UKHO and beyond. Whilst much of that could be successfully achieved via remote working communication channels, it’s anticipated that the role holder will attend the office for 60% of their working time to maximise collaboration, information sharing and the provision of close support to the business.

**Job description**:
UKHO are building their Data Governance Framework around the the DAMA-DMBOK2 Data Management Framework also known as the DAMA Wheel. This has 10 Data Management knowledge areas, with Data Governance at the heart setting policies and best practice.

The Data Governance Technical lead will work in close liaison with stakeholders across all business areas, on Data Governance and bringing together the ‘Knowledge Areas’ of the DAMA Wheel. Whilst some Knowledge Areas are the responsibility of other business areas, we work closely together to ensure alignment.
- Own, maintain and embed the Data Governance Framework, Policies and Processes in accordance with UKHO, UK Government and industry best practice. Communicating and reinforce their adoption to enable us to deliver the many data-related objectives within our Corporate Plan.
- Develop, deepen, and evolve the current range of Data Governance resources for Data Practitioners, Teams, and Managers maintaining alignment with UKHO, UK Government, and industry Best Practice.
- Respond to business challenges and identify opportunities as things evolve, continuing alignment to our Enterprise Architecture and compliance with UK Government and industry Best Practice.
- Manage and implement measures to develop our maturity in Data Governance practice through research, collaboration, and stakeholder feedback, identifying challenges and blockers.
- Define requirements necessary to support good Data Governance and communicate effectively with appropriate stakeholders, including those who are responsible, accountable, consultable, and to be informed, which may at times be separate, varied, and/or the same.

Support UKHOs contribution to governmental and international Data Governance activities such as the:

- UK Government Geospatial Commission
- Marine Environmental Data and Information Network
- International Hydrographic Office Marine Spatial Data Infrastructure Working Group
- Open Geospatial Consortium Working Group for the Marine Domain
- United Nations Global Geospatial Information Management Working Group on Marine Geospatial Information
