Dyfodol Prison Team Leader / Caseworker

**Hours**:37.5 hours per week

**Based at**: HMP Usk and HMP Prescoed

**Responsible to**: Dyfodol Public Sector Prisons Manager

An opportunity has arisen for a passionate and self-motivated individual to join our team.

**Job Purpose**:
The Dyfodol Offender Interventions Serviceis an integrated partnership provision for South Wales and for the public sector prisons of HMP Cardiff, HMP Swansea, HMP Usk/Prescoed. The aim of the service is to address the causes of drug and/or alcohol related offending and risk of harm to individuals, families, peers and their communities through assessment, engagement and diverting individual offenders out of crime and into appropriate levels of interventions, support the reduction of drug and alcohol related misuse and reduce levels of offending, demonstrating evidence based best practice in all the Services. The Service will include developing and sustaining close working relationships with a number of organisations to align to and support the work of the three Area Planning Boards (Western Bay, Cardiff the Vale and Cwm Taf Morgannwg). It will also provide support for adult offenders and prisoners who have a drug and/or alcohol dependency who reside within the seven unitary local authority areas of South Wales (Swansea, Neath Port Talbot, Bridgend, Cardiff, Vale of Glamorgan, Rhondda Cynon Taf and Merthyr Tydfil).

**Role Responsibilities**:
**Caseworker (3 days a week)**
- To organise and deliver recovery and living skills focused group sessions within the prison.
- Provide a range of accurate, relevant and factual information on drugs and alcohol and their effects to prisoners and to professionals within prisons, that is accessible and meaningful in terms of context, language, and literacy.
- Carry out individual one-to-one sessions and provide advice, information, support, harm minimisation advice, brief and structured interventions in relation to substance misuse and signposting to available/appropriate services in the community.
- Provide substance misuse assessment, case management and care planning to individuals engaged with the service.
- Reduce the risk of overdose by providing advice and information to reduce relapse and deliver Naloxone/Prenoxad training prior to release.
- Maintain accurate client records and collection of information for monitoring and evaluating effectiveness and quality of service.
- Ensure the service offers information, advice on services available and support to service users with the aim of enhancing motivation and create an awareness of the possibilities for personal change.
- Liaise with appropriate services to ensure continuity of treatment and support, for those receiving treatment prior to custody, during custody, on transfer, and on return to the community; including being the main lead for substance misuse whilst the prisoner is in custody.
- Develop and maintain excellent relationships across all relevant forums and agencies locally.
- Manage a caseload of service users and effectively model good practice.
- Contribute to the achievement of targets and Management Information as required.
- Undertake any other duties that from time to time may reasonably be required.

**Team Leader (2 days a week)**
- To have commitment to and demonstrate an undertaking of equality of opportunity and its relevance to different sectors within the community.
- Attend meetings required by the prison, Adferiad and the community.
- Supervision of 2 caseworkers and an administrator to ensure competency and confidence in delivery of high quality services.
- Enhance and develop the quality of the Dyfodol Service in the custodial estate.
- Monitor file and casework quality.
- Encourage a culture of continuous professional development and performance improvement at individual and service level. Carrying out annual appraisals and identifying training needs contributing to the organisation’s training plan.
- Promote collaborative working with the Offender Management Unit and others within the custodial estate and in the community to provide input into risk and case management and ensure that the work of substance misuse staff is informed by the Offender Supervisor and Offender Management.
- Represent Adferiad and Dyfodol at local and regional events.
- Manage and build productive relationships with a range of departments/organisations within and outside the custodial estate.
- Provide reports, monitoring and service updates.
