Purpose of the role

We are passionate about the benefits the community garden bring to improving the local environment, promoting community cohesion and supporting the health and well-being of people of all ages and backgrounds. We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic person with good interpersonal skills to coordinate activities in the Brookfield Community garden, this will involve managing the volunteers in the garden, working with the town council and allotment association, you will also be responsible for organising community events, supervising the delivery of planned visits, referrals from partners including patients receiving a green social prescription from our GP surgeries and promoting appropriate training and workshops. We also want to offer scope for creativity and will be open to innovation and ideas of developing the garden considering craft workshops or various socialising experiences to support mental wellness in the natural environment. This role will also include an educational component to benefit the visitors and groups and share skills and knowledge of growing vegetables and flowers. Together aiming to turn the garden into a productive growing space that is open to all. The goal is to create a safe space that is as diverse and representative as our neighbourhood.

**Responsibilities**:

- Coordinate the delivery of Growing Health Community Garden projects and programmes that contribute specifically to environmental improvements and community development by:
Supporting the delivery of projects to empower local people to encourage confidence in the natural environment and growing space this will include: - Working with community groups, schools, our GPs and social prescribers, housing associations, and local people to identify shared environmental or health related needs and priorities.
- Developing environmental initiatives such as community gardening, biodiversity, recycling projects.
- Establishing regular skill sharing and volunteering activities to sustain involvement.
- Establish robust processes and procedures for volunteering and social prescribing and ensure compliance with Health and Safety, Safeguarding and other relevant legislation
- Establish and manage project administrative systems and ensure compliance with Data Protection legislation
- Develop strong partnerships with NHS Social Prescribers and local environment and community groups to deliver on the project’s objectives
- Develop and deliver project evaluation and monitoring processes
- Develop strong relationships with the project Board and partner organisations
- Work with Board members and volunteers on developing communications strategy
- Act as key point of contact for the project
- Develop horticultural plan and programme with key volunteer team
- Develop schools, care homes and community group visits
- Maintain key local community relationships.
- Manage project expenditure working with the Town Clerk and the Project Financial Director.
- Work on pipeline funding relationship building
- Ensure equality, inclusivity and diversity through the project objectives
- Facilitate the training & development of individuals and groups.
- Recruit, induct & support volunteers so they receive a valuable experience
- Any other reasonable duties to perform the job role.
- Set up workshop’s, demonstration days and practical events that generates an income for the garden i.e. make bug hotels, willow obelisk’s, basket weaving

- Be good communicators and have listening skills
- Be positive, sociable, confident, friendly, and welcoming
- Have good horticultural and gardening knowledge to drive this initiative, making sure the gardens reach its potential as a productive growing space.
- Be supportive of others, encouraging people to develop skills in basic horticulture and bring practical skills that will enable them to thrive and reach their personal goals.
