This 012 month post will offer the post holder a broad experience in the presentation and management of a wide variety of autoimmune rheumatic conditions. It will provide an excellent opportunity to gain extensive experience in both general rheumatology and the sub-specialties we manage including autoimmune connective tissue diseases and vasculitides, inflammatory arthritis, auto-inflammatory syndromes, crystal arthritis and the spondyloarthropathies. During the course of the post you will have the opportunity to learn about the role of cytotoxic and biological therapies in the treatment of rheumatic diseases and the long-term monitoring of disease activity we undertake from experience on our DCU, ward and OPD clinics. You will become an integral part of our highly experienced multidisciplinary team. We will actively support your participation in clinical audit, clinical research or teaching depending on your personal aims and interests.

The post is split 50:50 between Rheumatology and Health Informatics. The Rheumatology component of this job will primarily provide daily medical input into the review of patients attending the busy dedicated rheumatology day-case unit thus ensuring that it is safe for patients to receive their treatment and to assess their response to these therapies. The post holder will also have responsibilities for rheumatology in patients working closely with registrars and consultants. The post holder will in addition attend weekly outpatient rheumatology subspecialty clinics for review and full assessment of a range of rheumatic diseases under consultant supervision and attend weekly educational meetings and multidisciplinary team meetings.

**Duties and Responsibilities - Clinical Work (rheumatology)**:
**Clinical**:

- You will work with other team members to provide day to day delivery of medical care to the patients attending the dedicated rheumatology day case unit. This will include the assessment of patients to ensure it is safe for patients to receive their treatments e.g. biologic therapy or chemotherapy and to assess their response to treatment.
- To work with other team members to ensure the day to day care of the rheumatology inpatients on ward 20 (up to 5 patients).
- To contribute to the weekly Rheumatology ‘Grand Round’ where inpatients, cross discipline referrals and complex outpatient cases are discussed.
- To attend 1-2 rheumatology out-patient clinics per week e.g. general rheumatology follow up clinics, the spondyloarthritis clinic, or an autoimmune connective tissue disease clinic. You will be expected to review follow up patients and sometimes see new patients. You will be supervised by a consultant.

**Administrative**:

- The post holder will be expected to contribute to departmental administration for the day case unit, inpatients, clinics and clinical governance.

**Research and Audit**:

- You will be supported to obtain your Good Clinical Practice certification ‘GCP’ early in course of your post.
- You may be offered the opportunity to assess patients in pharmaceutical clinical trials and other research studies relevant to patients who are attending the rheumatology day case unit.
- You will be expected participate in audits develop and lead an audit/ quality improvement project with particular emphasis on digitisation of current clinical practice bringing best practice to our department from your wider experience across the Trust

**Teaching**:

- To participate in departmental teaching for undergraduate medical students.
- We run a weekly departmental postgraduate training programme with input from clinical and research staff across both the Freeman and RVI sites. This includes a monthly combined musculoskeletal radiology MDT meeting, quarterly pathology meetings and monthly regional rheumatology meetings. The post holder will be expected to attend and contribute on a weekly basis.
- To participate in the Trust’s IMT/CMT and/or region’s rheumatology training programme according to the post holder’s training needs/stage of training.
