The role

Contributing to Aberystwyth University’s UK student recruitment’s effort, and providing liaison services to key client groups including schools, colleges, teachers/advisers, students, applicants, parents/guardians and other relevant stakeholders, the post will primarily service North West England. To be able to access this region’s schools and colleges the postholder should normally be resident one of the following areas: Cheshire / Merseyside / Greater Manchester / Shropshire / Telford and Wrekin or North Wales. There will be occasional trips beyond this core area and will involve travel throughout the UK to support colleagues at recruitment events, out of the region.

The postholder will also travel Aberystwyth, normally monthly, for meetings, training and participation in campus-based activities (e.g., for Open Days, school/college visits, teacher/adviser visits and related events).

The role involves a large degree of interaction with client groups - from giving presentations to groups, to one-to-one conversations at recruitment events - giving informed information, advice and guidance to build trust and good relationships with our clients.

This post involves physically demanding schedules at times and requires a willingness and ability to travel frequently and extensively within the region, and further afield when necessary.

The role will provide extensive opportunities to develop a wide set of skills, relating not only to the field of higher education, but to the wider areas of events, marketing and sales, amongst others.

Appointments are normally made within 4 - 8 weeks of the closing date.

What you’ll do

In this role, you will be supporting the development and management of target feeder institutions, to implement the University’s student recruitment plans (including elements of the University’s Widening Participation agenda) through the development of effective long-term relationships. You will do so by the following means:

- Liaise with feeder schools/colleges to negotiate and develop an annual programme of activities both on and off campus, as appropriate.
- Represent the University at higher education recruitment events aimed at both Undergraduate (UG) and Postgraduate (PG) students, as appropriate.
- Assist in the training of Student Ambassadors and oversee them at events that you attend.
- Include Widening Participation considerations in recruitment activities, and work closely with specialist staff delivering widening participation activity on behalf of the University.
- Assist with the planning and coordination of the University’s school/college taster days and other related recruitment events.
- Participate in external events (e.g. the Royal Welsh Show and other such “national scale” events) as required.
- Take a keen interest in recent developments within the higher education sector and use this knowledge to further links with client groups.
- Manage day-to-day workload and respond flexibly and in a timely fashion to prioritise projects as they arise, in what is a competitive field of work.
- Work closely with the line manager and other Global Marketing and Student Recruitment staff to provide market intelligence to inform student recruitment plans and activity, and to assist in the effective development and utilisation of the University’s CRM systems.
- Contribute data and informed analysis to reports for the University’s Recruitment, Marketing and Admissions Board, Recruitment Action Group, and other University committees as and when required.
- Use data from a variety of platforms, with guidance from the line manager, to inform school/college targeting strategies.
- Support and inform marketing campaigns (electronic and print based media) targeting UG and PG students on the basis of your recruitment experience and knowledge.
- Provide central recruitment support and marketing insights, to inform the outreach and recruitment work of the University’s academic departments.
- Attend Aberystwyth for designated meetings, events and recruitment activities, as required and when requested by the line manager, on a regular, timetabled basis.
- Be willing and able to work flexibly as weekend and evening work will be required.
- The ability to undertake regular travel throughout your region, and the rest of the UK.
- Undertake health and safety duties and responsibilities appropriate to the post.
- Be committed to the University’s Equal Opportunities and Diversity Policy, together with an understanding of how it operate
