**Key Responsibilities**: Clinical/Operational Hold a PgC/PgD/Masters in the relevant modality. Hold recognised and accredited certification on the interpretation of ECG readings. Continually develop up to date scanning procedures; consistent with current technology within the department, to take account of changes in policy and procedure nationally and locally. Liaise with referrers, radiologists and Imaging Services Management on maintenance and improvement of service delivery.
Build inter-professional networks with related personnel. Monitor the daily request list to ensure adequate and timely vetting of all CT cardiac referrals is performed. Utilise drug administration skills within your scope of practice to deliver cardiac drugs as described in the relevant protocol for CT cardiac scanning. Drug delivery will be autonomous at the point of scanning for internal external referrals with self-audit against radiologist interpretation as a demonstration of accuracy and good working practice.
Maintain scanning and drug administration skill levels with regular caseload, discussion and review of cases with radiology and radiographer colleagues. Discuss issues of image interpretation with clinicians to ensure optimum outcome for the patient at the time of original attendance to include Red dot recognition of acute pathology to be discussed with a radiologist. Provide a written policy on the administration of GTN and beta-blockers by named radiographers with regular with radiologists/pharmacy input to ensure best working practice. Have a proven ability to write clear, concise scanning protocols.
Have a proven ability to develop and adjust current and new scanning protocols. Assist with development of CT cardiac procedures and protocols. To regularly attend Multi-disciplinary team (MDT) meetings. Have a proven ability to lead on patient safety regarding drug delivery and radiation delivery.
To lead on research projects agreed by the Imaging Services Manager and Superintendent Radiographer. To work with the CT dose optimisation group to ensure adherence to the ALARAP principle whilst maintaining diagnostic quality. To lead on the training and development of staff performing CT cardiac scans to ensure effective dissemination of learning and the maintenance of good working practice to include radiographers and radiologists. To co-ordinate effectively with the Superintendent radiographer in order to be responsible for staff and resources within a designated clinical area.
To carry out all aspects of general, and highly specialized CT whilst managing their own workload, both as an autonomous practitioner and as part of a multi-professional team, in in a manner that meets professional, departmental and legal standards and requirements. Develop and maintain imaging skills of self and others to the highest level. Contributes/proposes changes to departmental policy development. Able to interpret Clinicians requirements, to determine the appropriate scanning technique and ensure that it is performed in accordance with best practice and that the resultant images are diagnostic and advise others.
To use discretion to work outside of departmental standards when clinical circumstances necessitate i.e. undertaking additional or specialist techniques and authorise others to do so. To check completed scans against accepted diagnostic standards, including patients details and to act appropriately according to the findings. To undertake CT and MR scans in the absence of a radiologist according to agreed protocols.
To develop, expand, and keep up to date with all clinical scanning techniques. Consult the superintendent radiographer to develop an area of expertise relevant to service provision. To undertake IV injections with no supervision ensuring a patient allergy history is always obtained. To be able to relate to all manner of patients with understanding and care, respecting their privacy and dignity to provide a caring and confidential service.
To ensure that a positive identification is obtained from all patients prior to their examination. Voluntary participation in the night shift rota covering CT scanning. Be responsible for the consumable stock control necessary to support designated clinical areas, within the agreed financial limits. Undertake any duties assigned by the Management Team commensurate with the post.
Demonstrate specialised keyboard skills required for image manipulation and workstation development. Promote optimal, accurate and correct use of PACS and other associated digital technology within the Diagnostic Imaging Department and the Trust to effectively contribute towards the achievement of key service and corporate objectives. To be able to use the departmental radiology information computer to register patients, to check results and appointments. Participate in the management of performance, both of the service and of individuals, as appropriate and in liaison with the Management Team.
