**Job summary**:
The Communications Directorate uses effective communication and marketing activity to help UKHSA deliver its health security objectives as well as protect and enhance UKHSA’s reputation with its professional partners and stakeholders as well as the public we serve.

Working as part of the content team, the post holder will be responsible for producing exciting and engaging content on issues that matter to the public’s health, as well as on organisational priorities.

This includes managing briefs and creative projects, writing and editing, assisting with the ideas for and creation of social media content and other outputs for external and internal audiences.

Key audiences you will target include the general public, healthcare professionals and other stakeholders. The postholder will work closely with the senior content team manager to field content requests and prioritise workload, work on incident response when needed and project manage some long-running or large content projects.

**London Office Based with Hybrid Working**

**Job description**:
**Editorial production**
- To help with the management of content briefs and prioritisation of our team workload
- To write, edit and manage the process of written content including blogs and external articles
- To work on incident response (such as infectious disease outbreaks) and manage the content requests that come out of incident cells
- To identify content gaps to colleagues and find creative solutions
- To assist in the production and communications outputs of corporate content such as strategies and reports
- To assure the editorial quality of all materials published including accessibility

**Resource management**
- to ensure colleagues within the Communications directorate and staff across the wider agency have prompt access to editorial advice and support whenever it is needed
- Work with the content team as a unit to ensure workflow and workloads are managed

**Person specification**:
The postholder will be encouraged to think creatively to come up with content ideas as well as help colleagues in the wider directorate and in policy teams to refine their briefs and requests for content.

The role will involve liaison with scientific experts and an ability to translate science and medical information into lively authoritative content for professional as well as general audiences. This is a fast-paced role that requires the management of multiple deadlines at once.

This role will have line management responsibility for the content officer.

**ESSENTIAL CRITERIA**:
**Qualification**

**Knowledge and experience (Experience as defined by type/level not length)**
- At least two years in frontline journalism or a role which includes substantial writing/editing/creative content production at local, regional, national or specialist level in a scientific or health-related environment
- A wide-ranging understanding of all forms of media/ publications - especially electronic publications, social media, web etc
- Able to demonstrate a clear understanding of the requirements of different audiences and channels

**Skills and capabilities**
- Extremely high level of written and verbal communications skills
- Familiarity with social media channels including Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn and Facebook
- Familiarity with public health issues, the NHS and health policy

**Equality and diversity**

**Desirable**
- Professional accredited qualification e.g. NCTJ diploma
