**Digital Media Investigator (DMI)**
**Location: Police HQ, Northallerton**
**Contract: Permanent, Full Time (37 Hours)**
**Salary: £27,432-£32,394**

Main Duties
- The DMI will be required to attend crime scenes to formulate digital forensic strategies.
- To deliver against these strategies to support investigations and provide high quality evidence which enables the effective prosecution of offenders through the courts.
- Provide advice in respect of evidential material from a wide range of digital media devices, CCTV and other police systems.
- Act as tactical advisor to Senior Investigating Officers and agree the digital and telephony strategy.
- Provide advice, guidance and assistance to local officers and staff on the proportionate retrieval of data from digital storage devices, producing reports at the point of need to support investigation of crimes and criminal prosecutions.
- Proactively identify opportunities for exploiting technological solutions, to deliver an effective and efficient Digital Media Investigation service for North Yorkshire Police in support of the forces strategic priorities.
- Promote the use of Digital Media as a significant source of intelligence and evidence through attendance at briefings and briefing/training of customers.
Essential
- Well-developed verbal, written and interpersonal communications skills and the ability to influence at all levels.
- Ability demonstrate and impart technical knowledge to key internal and external stakeholders
- An enthusiastic self-starter, who is highly organised, possesses an enquiring mind and the ability to prioritise work at short notice.
- Demonstrable knowledge and interest in digital media and investigation techniques
- Excellent research skills and the ability to provide practical, cost effective and workable recommendations to enhance the service offered by the department.
- Fully IT literate and well versed in a wide range of software packages.
- Ability to rapidly familiarise themselves with new and emerging Digital technologies.
Desirable
- Awareness of relevant legislation and guidance including the Criminal Procedures & Investigation Act 1996 (CPIA).
- A highly experienced and competent investigator with a proven history of practical experience in the fields of Communications Data, ANPR, CCTV or Digital Forensics within Law Enforcement.
- Ability to liaise with several Law Enforcement and Legal Professionals such as Judges, Barristers, Cell Site Experts, SPoCs, SIOs and OICs.
- Fully conversant with available communications data, open-source techniques, digital forensic opportunities and ANPR tactics; capable of delivering a professional investigation strategy across all these disciplines and communicating that strategy to Senior Investigating Officers and Police Leaders.
