**We are looking for a Senior Policy Officer to join our busy Children and Young Londoners Team.**

We’re passionate about improving the lives of young Londoners. Every child in London should have the best possible chance for happiness and success.

You will provide policy leadership and play a key role in shaping how the Mayor will use the full range of his influencing, advocacy and convening powers to ensure more equitable and positive outcomes for all children and young people in London. You will work agilely using matrix working principle across the children and young Londoners policy portfolio with lead responsibilities for reducing inequalities.

The postholder will be expected to achieve desired outputs within agreed timeframes and budgets, to specification and operational standards.

**Principal accountabilities**
- Provide leadership, gather insight and intelligence and work with external and internal partners and stakeholders to identify and develop the GLA’s policy position for children and young Londoners, reflecting Mayoral and partnership priorities.
- Manage policy specific networks and work effectively with key system stakeholders, including supporting delivery of the London Missions workstreams that impact on children and young Londoners.
- Lead on assembling, interpreting and analysing relevant information on children and young Londoners to inform policy, working closely with experts and stakeholders
- Develop and deliver policy workstream action plans, liaising with internal and external partners
- Liaise with the CYL programme sub-team to scope GLA-led project and programme delivery where appropriate
- Advise Deputy Mayors and political advisors, and brief partners and other external organisations on GLA policy, engaging them in its inception and development
- Communicate effectively sharing knowledge and information with senior staff across the GLA and wider Group and work with internal and external stakeholders and partners to achieve our corporate objectives
- Coordinate team members’ agile work across the children and young Londoners portfolio, ensure the needs of children and young Londoners are reflected in the wider work of the GLA.
- Take the lead for the team for co-ordinating responses on our policy priorities and life-course stages and Mayoral action to the London Assembly, correspondence and prepare briefings for related meetings.
- Engage at a senior level with a wide variety of public and private stakeholders across the children and young Londoners sector and represent the GLA in a variety of forums
- Provide flexible support to the Policy and Intelligence sub-team in developing and delivering the Mayor’s overall approach to children and young Londoners policy, including input to London’s recovery
- Provide a flexible resource to support the delivery of the Mayor’s children and young Londoners pledges, working within the wider context of the London Recovery
- Provide high quality support for relevant senior stakeholders in the GLA, including
- drafting timely responses to Mayoral questions and correspondence;
- providing regular briefing to the Mayor, his Office and other senior officials;
- providing concise briefings and responses to questions;
- providing meeting management and secretariat functions for key meetings;
- representing the GLA at external events and meetings; and
- making timely responses to the London Assembly’s scrutiny function.
- Manage resources allocated to the job in accordance with the GLA’s policies and standards

**Person specification**

Technical requirements/experience/qualifications
- A relevant degree or equivalent professional qualification or track record to demonstrate an equivalent level of knowledge and skills and ability to analyse and present complex ideas and information gained through experience.
- A successful track record of leading children and young people policy and/or research development and its evaluation in a complex political environment.
- A thorough knowledge of relevant policy and legislation and practice development related to children and young people to inform policy making and service
