**Job Duties**:
You will be joining the Rural Estates team as a Principal Rural Countryside Officer managing the non-let assets on the Rural Estate and a team of six employees. You will be working on projects such as carbon sequestration, biodiversity net gain, tree planting and habitat creation.

Delivering the day-to-day operational management of the non-let assets across the estate including 1,150 acres of woodland, four disused railway lines, agricultural and grazing land, recreation sites and open spaces. Researching, implementing, and managing various funding opportunities such as woodland creation grants and stewardship schemes, managing the income and expenditure associated with these grants.

Lead on all team operational Health & Safety matters, maintain the team’s Health & Safety Plan, Risk Registers, Risk Assessments & COSHH Register.

Producing project client briefs and specifications, tendering works and then managing the projects to completion. These projects are varied and can range from road re-surfacing & bridge repairs to woodland management & creation and invasive species control.

Guide the Senior Rural Tree Officer in their work ensuring the £400k tree safety budget is being directed to the highest risk areas. Have direct management of the Senior Rural Tree Officer, Countryside Works Team, who undertake grounds maintenance tasks and the Building Works Team who undertake minor asset repairs. You will create their annual works programme, carry out safety audits and be responsible for their workshop premises, vehicles, plant and equipment.

**You will have the opportunity to**:

- Manage newly planted woodland ensuring the successful establishment to meet terms of grant schemes
- Manage one of Hertfordshire’s chalk streams to aid brown trout. Works will include tree monitoring, installing new river structures and Japanese Knotweed control
- Manage one of the largest cornflower fields in the UK
- Re-surface estate tracks and roads
- Undertake structural gabion works to culverts

You will be the main contact for customer, tenant and councillor complaints relating to non-let assets.

You will work with the CWT, consultants and contractors to ensure that the necessary operations are undertaken on a recently planted 33,000 tree mixed broadleaf woodland. You will be ensuring the successful establishment of the woodland, with the challenge of managing the budget to ensure operation costs are covered by the money being received from grants.

You will have the opportunity to manage one of Hertfordshire’s chalk streams, working with others to create breeding areas for brown trout. You will be responsible for monitoring the tree growth work towards improvements to the in-stream inhibitors, including installation of new structures to aid in the varying speed of water flow within the river.
