RECRUITMENTiQ is working with one of Scotland's most prominent charities to assist with their recruitment of an experienced Development Officer to grow and develop their volunteer pool.

**The Role**

Volunteers are the heart of the charity.As a result of their recent strategic review, our client has identified the importance of better supporting and recognizing their current volunteers, as well as attracting and retaining new volunteers.

They strive to create a volunteering culture that is attractive to volunteers, and nurtures and rewards them.

**Main Duties and Responsibilities**
- Contribute to the implementation of the strategic plan with specific responsibility for a volunteering strategy for the charity.
- Support the recruitment, induction, and retention of new volunteers to enable the growth of our charitable services across Scotland:

- Lead on volunteer recruitment process set up for core service development and delivery.
- Build capacity of existing volunteers, developing confidence and skills to welcome and support new volunteers and deliver core projects.
- Work with volunteer teams to develop succession and contingency arrangements for key roles, to ensure continuity of service and appropriate support to volunteers.
- Advise local teams on best recruitment practices for new volunteers and support the recruitment of volunteer roles across the organisation.
- Work with existing volunteer teams to develop a clearly defined and consistent volunteer journey for volunteers, including appropriate processes for each stage of this journey.
- Develop and establish clear volunteer roles in line with our charitable projects and governance arrangements.
- Establish relationships with external stakeholders e.g., third sector interfaces, universities, and other organisations to promote and facilitate volunteering with the organisation.
- Build a positive volunteering culture where volunteers feel recognised, rewarded, and supported:

- Develop a greater understanding of our current volunteer base; by collecting data and evidence on who our volunteers are, their contributions and their motivations.
- Consult on, develop, and implement volunteer recognition and reward schemes.
- Work with our volunteer teams to establish consistent and well-designed processes for volunteer expenses and hour recording.
- Work with the Communications Officer to develop volunteer-focused communications including newsletters, campaigns, and other materials to increase engagement.
- Work alongside volunteers, staff team and the Board to continuously improve our volunteering practices in line with charity legislation and best practices in the sector:

- Assess current volunteering policies; consult on, develop, and implement any new policies as required.
- Work with volunteer teams to develop mechanisms to ensure safe and supported volunteering across the organisation, including induction processes, safeguarding, and equality and diversity.
- Support our Communities of Practice groups including leading the Volunteering Communities of Practice working group to develop volunteer best practices across the organisation.
- Contribute to the Volunteer Community of Practice of the organisation worldwide, sharing knowledge and best practice.
- Manage day-to-day operations relating to volunteers and volunteering:

- Respond to online and phone volunteer enquiries, processing or signposting as appropriate.
- Support the updating and maintenance of our database, web pages and social media in respect of volunteers.
- Monitor and report on volunteering metrics in line with the strategic plan and specific project plans.
- Working collaboratively with our staff team, Board and Volunteers, contribute to the overall operation and development of the charity including the development of governance, risk, finance, project delivery, fundraising and communications.

**Skills and Experience**
- Experience in interacting with volunteers; supporting, motivating, and empowering them.
- Knowledge and understanding of best practices in supporting and developing volunteers.
- Ability to communicate appropriately and develop effective partnerships with a wide.
- Community engagement to initiate projects, develop and deliver them, and demonstrate impact.
- Knowledge and understanding of relevant legislation e.g., PVG processes, safeguarding, equality and diversity.
- Clean UK driving license, and willing to travel across Scotland to engage in person with volunteers.
