The University of Cambridge ESRC Doctoral Training Partnership [DTP] is pleased to offer a studentship available for admission in October 2023 in the Institute of Criminology.

Project

The studentship will be a three-year doctoral programme and will be supervised by Dr Paolo Campana, Associate Professor in Criminology and Complex Networks. ESRC DTP students will acquire a unique set of skills that will equip them for high-profile careers as leading social scientists, in academia or in other government, industrial, commercial and third sector organisations, either in the UK or elsewhere.

The project will involve analyzing administrative records from the Criminal Justice System Linked Datasets (part of the UK ADR Data First Project) to explore the structure of drug trafficking in England and Wales as well as the mechanisms underpinning drug markets and the behaviour of their participants. This is a quantitative project with a strong social network analysis component.

We are looking for someone with a strong quantitative background and familiarity with at least one statistical package. Knowledge of social network analysis is highly desirable. Applicants should have (or expect to obtain by the start date) a Master's degree with at least a high Merit (preferably a distinction).
