**Job Title**: Assistant Accountant
**Location**: Near Hythe (Hybrid working available)
**Salary**: £45k
**Hours**:Monday-Friday, 8am-4:30pm, 8:30am-5pm or 9am-5:30pm with 1 hour for lunch

**As theAssistant Accountant your responsibilities would be**:
- Assisting with the preparation of monthly management accounts, investigating variances from forecast and providing commentary on these.
- Dealing with journals for prepayments and accruals.
- Assisting with the preparation of Annual Business Plan and sales targets.
- All aspects of VAT, including export and reverse charge.
- Preparation and filing of VAT returns and ensuring that payments to HMRC are made on time for VAT, PAYE and CT.
- Monthly reconciliation of control accounts.
- Monthly bank reconciliations.
- Maintaining the Fixed Assets register and making journal entries for depreciation each month and passing the correct entries upon sale of assets.
- Day to day management of the accounts team (2 Credit Managers / Sales ledger, 1 Purchase ledger, one managing sub-contract accounts, 1 in a floating role but mostly dealing with banking and sales ledger queries).
- To cover all functions due to absence within the department and in busy periods.
- During the busiest periods assisting the Credit Managers in dealing with the more complex accounts.
- A basic understanding of costing principles would be useful but not essential.
- Ad hoc reporting and project work (a large part of the role but hard to specify or provide much detail).
- Updating of sales statistics and providing commentary to the management team as appropriate.
- Liaising with external service providers - credit insurers, general commercial insurance brokers, credit card merchants etc.
- Undertaking contract reviews, both pre
- and post-contract, monitoring gross margins on these.
- Agreement of sales invoicing with Applications for Payment.
- Assisting with invoicing of large and complex projects.
- Assisting in the development and integration of new software and business processes.
- Assisting in financial year end duties, ensuring that all records are complete and accurate for the annual external audit, and liaising with auditors, dealing with queries etc.
**You'll be the perfect match for this position if you have**:
- Assistant Accountant experience
- Experience in either the manufacturing industry or construction would be an advantage but is not essential
- Office 365 - competence in Excel, Word, Access
