We are looking for a full-time Health Play Specialist to work within the Child Development Centre and Paediatric Oncology.

As a Health Play Specialist, you will join a well-established and valued play team, working across Children's Services. We are a proactive team, determined to provide quality interventions and find the best solutions for patients, families, and those we work alongside.

It is necessary to have a Health Play Specialist (HPS) qualification, but in the absence of this, a commitment to undertake HPS apprenticeship training is essential.

You will have excellent therapeutic, developmental play and communication skills and knowledge; experience in working with preschool children, especially in terms of developmental assessments; supporting children and young people through medical diagnostic and treatment procedures; the ability to work autonomously and with other members of the multidisciplinary team

**Main duties of the job**:

- Work as part of a multi-disciplinary team to provide support for children, young people and their families.
- Take on individual referrals for children and young people experiencing difficulty in coping with the diagnosis/treatment and managing hospital admission/procedures. Using evidence based practice to assess, plan, implement and evaluate therapeutic interventions.
- Work independently and with the multi-disciplinary team to support the development of preschool children with additional needs.
- Provide therapeutic play interventions for specific medical procedures.
- Document play based and related interventions and outcomes.
- Develop skills, knowledge and be responsible for own practice through continued professional development.
- Promote an awareness of the emotional needs of children in hospital and the importance of play, within the multi-disciplinary team.

**Rota**: Monday-Friday - hours of work to be agreed
