Occupational Therapy Assistant

**Hours: 37 per week**
**Contract Type: Permanent**
**Service Area: Children and Young People’s Service**
**Department: Occupational Therapy**
We currently have an exciting opportunity for an Occupational Therapy Assistant to join our Disabled Children’s Team, on a full-time basis.
This challenging but rewarding role will see you working within a small Occupational Therapy team providing advice and support for children, young people and families in the Bath and North-East Somerset area.
We work closely with our colleagues across the service and have established partnerships with agencies across health, education, support services and adult services to ensure we can respond as effectively as possible to the needs of children and young people. We work with children with complex needs between the age of 0-18 predominantly at home. We support disabled children and their families to live safely and independently in their own home.
Our team is based at Civic Centre in Keynsham, within the Children and Young People Service and we are looking for an enthusiastic worker to join our team. You will experience a culture of mutual support amongst team members and receive formal supervision on a regular basis and appropriate training.
The role will involve working under the direction and supervision of the Occupational Therapist with the following:
- Providing interventions for children with disabilities and their families, including equipment provision, home adaptations and re-housing
- Completing home visits to do equipment reviews, including adjustment for growth as required
- Communicating with families and other professionals to process incoming referrals, signpost and complete referrals to other teams and support families with small scale interventions whilst they await full assessment
- Completing concise and informative records, booking appointments, managing the calendars, and updating the ordering systems to ensure effective team function
You will be organised, flexible and have good observational and inter-personal skills. It is important that you can respond calmly in high-pressure situations and that you are confident to work autonomously when required. You will also be competent with IT and be a car driver with access to a vehicle.
Your main place of work will be the award-winning, modern Civic Centre in Keynsham, halfway between Bath and Bristol, easily accessible via car or public transport, with a train station 5 minutes’ walk away.
**Why B&NES Council?**
