The Roots Programme CIC brings people together, working across equality and social justice. We believe that a more connected, curious and compassionate society is possible. We now seek a Communications Lead with a similar outlook to us.

This is at an exciting and pivotal time for The Roots Programme. In 2024, we launch our five year strategy with support from the National Lottery’s UK Fund. We are about to embark on a structural and sustainability review to ensure we are best placed to deliver on the rest of our strategy. This role is such an exciting opportunity for someone to have the freedom to build external messaging for a small and growing charity; the postholder will have the support of a fantastic leadership team who are realistic about future goals, passionate about the work of the organisation, and keen to start raising the profile of a social enterprise that does innovative, relevant and exciting work around the UK.

As the first Communications Lead to join the organisation, you'll be working with a fantastic team, you'll be working to raise the profile of Roots through a mix of traditional and digital marketing.

Core responsibilities within the role will include:

- Copywriting to create documents, literature, case studies and press releases
- Design skills utilised for the creation of marketing materials
- Developing the website, and maximising its potential
- Lead the delivery of the Marketing and Communications Strategy to raise Roots’ profile and reach across the UK.
- Safeguard the reputation and brand of the organisation and monitor media.
- Lead the development of digital and print materials to support all areas of the charity such as annual report, newsletter, general advertising
- Responsible for development of social media strategy in line with our goals, including managing a content planner and managing social media channels on a day-to-day basis, using social media tools such as Hootsuite
- Liaise with local and national press including creating press releases and arranging radio interviews

- Previous demonstrable experience gained within a marketing and communications role
- Demonstrable experience in creating content for social media, digital marketing, social media management and traditional marketing methods
- Good level of technical knowledge and experience of relevant platforms - Facebook, Instagram, X, LinkedIn, WordPress + other website builders.
- Experience in responding to enquiries, comments, and feedback on social media
- Knowledge and experience of the optimisation of social media channels, primarily Facebook, Instagram and X experience, maintaining, updating, and managing a website, ideally using WordPress
- An excellent command of English language, grammar and spelling for accurate copywriting and proofreading
- Excellent communication skills
- Understanding of General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR) with knowledge of legislation and law relevant to marketing
- A passion for identifying and sourcing interesting stories and writing/editing engaging content
- Highly organised, with good time management skills and the ability to prioritise well

- We require two references, one from your current or most recent employer and another
- Strong, reliable wifi connection whilst working from home
- You will be required to agree to and sign our code of conduct
- You must have the right to work in the UK

**Salary, hours and benefits**

£26,000 - £28,000 (pro-rata)

2.5 days per week

Flexible hours to suit your availability.

Fully remote/home-working (aside from the occasional in-person, team meet up)
