Sheffield, United Kingdom University of Sheffield Full time

The Department of Journalism Studies is one of the major journalism research and teaching establishments in the UK. We are committed to a teaching and research programme that takes an increasingly interdisciplinary approach to the fields of journalism, politics, communication and digital media.

Our staff are drawn from journalism and academia as well as a number of areas within professional services. We have an excellent network of national and international contacts both in journalism and in the academic world. We have a thriving international community of postgraduate research students, taught postgraduates and undergraduates. Our alumni are working in newsrooms in the UK and abroad as reporters, editors, producers, presenters while others have gone on to academic careers. We have topped the National Student Survey in our field on five occasions and every major UK university league table places us in the top five.

We have an exciting opportunity for a part-time Project Officer to provide support for an impact-oriented project Diasporas at War: Engaging crisis resolution NGOs and diaspora communities over digital war and peace initiatives. The project will examine how diasporas fight online or contribute to peace during armed conflict in their homeland and the findings will be disseminated to conflict resolution NGOs and policymakers. The Principal Investigator for the project is Dr Dmitry Chernobrov, Senior Lecturer in Media and International Politics in the Department of Journalism Studies.

We are looking for a self-motivated person who will support the Principal Investigator with the general administration of the project and will have particular responsibility for coordinating impact activities including the PI's research visits, focus groups, workshop and interviews. The Project Officer will also be responsible for some elements of qualitative research activities, as directed by the Principal Investigator.

We are committed to exploring flexible working opportunities which benefit the individual and University.

We’re one of the best not-for-profit organisations to work for in the UK. The University’s Total Reward Package includes a competitive salary, a generous Pension Scheme and annual leave entitlement, as well as access to a range of learning and development courses to support your personal and professional development.

We build teams of people from different heritages and lifestyles from across the world, whose talent and contributions complement each other to greatest effect. We believe diversity in all its forms delivers greater impact through research, teaching and student experience.
