This post is aimed at doctors who wish to spend time working in a medical educational role within Education Faculty in Colchester.

The delivery of undergraduate medical education is led by the relevant Associate Dean (AD - for BLSMD/UEA) or Clinical Sub-Dean (ARU School of Medicine), supported by their Deputy (DAD), Clinical Tutors (CT), Junior Clinical teaching Fellows (JCTF) and administrative team. The majority of our existing students are from Bart’s and the London Medical School (years 3-5), with some Year 2 students (Respiratory and Paediatrics) from UEA. Anglia Ruskin School of Medicine (ARU) opened in 2018 and is now sending year 1-5 medical students to us on placement. This post was created to support the increasing numbers of ARU students attending our hospital on placement. This will include Year 1 students who have teaching sessions on a Thursday afternoon, as well as year 3, 4 and 5 students, supporting with timetabling, clinical skills teaching and general support whilst on placement. Although predominately responsible for ARU student teaching the post holder will be expected to cross cover with the other teaching fellows as appropriate.

Interviews to take place in the beginning of April 2023.
- The CEF’s main role is to help the Sub Dean, the CTs / JCTFs and other teachers deliver the undergraduate curriculum for ARU students on placement.
- In addition the CEF’s will be expected to undertake research and audit projects for presentation at congresses such as the Association for Study of Medical Education (ASME) on behalf of the faculty.
- The CEF will automatically be a member of the Medical Education Assurance Committee.
- The CEF will support clinical skills teaching within the Undergraduate programme.
- The CEF will need to be in regular communication with theCTs / JCTFsand with each other. They meet formally throughout the year, to review the delivery of teaching and plan for the future.
- A CEF is expected to work 40 hrs per week, mainly 09:00 - 17:00, Monday to Friday. It is recognized that the workload is variable and that the working days and times will need to be flexible. One day a week will be spent in chosen clinical specialty. One day a week can be spent working towards a Certificate in Medical education if the applicant wishes to.
- It will also be possible for appointee to undertake a formal educational qualification and to develop their personal career aspirations. For example, a surgical trainee may wish to spend time working in theatre or at the bedside. The precise arrangements are negotiablewith the AD.

We are also now building a £7million specialist interventional radiology and cardiac angiography unit at Colchester.

At Ipswich we are investing £35million in a new Emergency Department and co-located Urgent Treatment Centre, with additional diagnostic imaging kit (MRI and CT). There’s a £5.3million molecular diagnostic laboratory soon to open at Ipswich, and works begins soon for a new Breast Care Centre and a Children’s Unit.

- They will ensure that specified formal teaching sessions are appropriately timetabled and delivered.

1. The CEF will work on a day to day basis with the faculty administrator, and theCTs / JCTFswho are responsible for organizing and delivering the formal teaching programme and clinical placements for each rotation in the hospital.
- They help develop and deliver the local simulation programme for the undergraduate students.

1. They will work with the local simulation lead to develop and deliver a coherent programme of simulation based teaching to complement the centrally delivered course.
2. They will attend appropriate training for this, as required.
- They will ensure seamless teaching across the curriculum by their availibility during the Academic year.
