The Mixed Reality & AI Lab in Cambridge (UK) is a research team building the future for mixed reality. We bring innovative new technologies and experiences from early-stage research to deployment in Microsoft products. Our main focus is to enable transformative new remote presence experiences that combine next-generation mixed reality hardware with AI software to improve our ability to communicate with each other remotely. The team has a diverse wealth of experience across computer vision, graphics, neural rendering, deep learning, interaction, human character animation and software engineering, and has a strong track record of shipping ground-breaking technologies in Microsoft products including Kinect and HoloLens.
We are looking for talented scientists to join us for a postdoctoral position. We are looking for individuals with experience in computer vision, graphics or machine learning: people who love to invent and build new stuff that really works and can be deployed to millions of users.
This role will focus on predicting attributes corresponding to human faces: colouring, hair style and accessories (eyewear, headwear). To excel at the role, you will need to be curious, love building software as part of a team, comfortable dealing with the ambiguity of R&D work, and take delight in learning new tools and techniques.
**Responsibilities**:
- Design and deliver models predicting attributes of human faces
- Collaborate across multiple scientific, engineering and design disciplines, making the architectural investments and trade-offs required to enable rapid iteration.
- Learn constantly, educate others, dive into new areas with unfamiliar technologies and evangelize best practices
**Qualifications**:
Required skills
- PhD in Computer Graphics, Computer Vision or Machine Learning
- Hands-on experience in training and understanding the performance of AI models
- Software engineering experience in C++, C# or Python, with good debugging skills
- Ability to understand how existing internal modules can be reused effectively and to establish effective collaborations
- Ability to set objectives and prioritize work to achieve those objectives
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in work related to 3D computer graphics
- Hands-on experience with predicting attributes of human faces
- Excellent communication and presentation skills.
This opening is for a two-year, full-time, residency position.
Benefits/perks listed below may vary depending on the nature of your employment with Microsoft and the country where you work.
