A health care support worker will be part of the ward based clinical team and will have a key role to play in developing and fostering a therapeutic relationship with service users to develop a culture of recovery.

The post works under the direct supervision of a registered nurse and will be expected to assist on all aspects expected in a clinical ward environment including undertaking a range of delegated clinical care duties.

Assist in standardised procedures relating to individualised service user, under the direct supervision of a registered nurse.

Carry out other delegated duties identified/designed by senior staff that related to the needs, changes and demands of the ward and service user care, inclusive of the provision of personal and therapeutic care when required.

Support the therapeutic relationship with service users through engagement and activities as deemed appropriate to the client group.

Provide activity to groups or individuals to meet their recovery needs as identified by primary nurse and/or Occupational Therapist.

Sussex Partnership was formed in April 2006 as an NHS Trust and established as an NHS Foundation Trust with Teaching Trust status in August 2008. We employ approximately 5000 staff, serve a total catchment population of more than 2 million and generate an income of £250 million.

The Trust delivers services via 5 Care Delivery Services (CDS), tasked with providing overarching leadership for care groups and / or geographical areas. Each CDS is led by an operational director and a clinical director, with a multi-disciplinary leadership team (including a range of clinical professions as well as business, finance, HR, IT and estates and facilities support staff) providing additional leadership and governance oversight. The CDS model supports continuous service improvement for patients and carers, is supported by Clinical Academic Groups and aligns with our Trust Values, Organisational Strategy and Clinical Strategy. The Trust strives to provide consistently high-quality services, working in partnership with each other, the people who use our services and other organisations.

Participate in service user observation and reporting any changes to senior staff as necessary, escalating significant issues as appropriate, including variances in a service user's condition.

Record observations and changes to a service user's clinical conditions.

Keep accurate, timely electronic and written records according to Trust policy, and data protection (GDPR) legislation.

Empower service users to regain their health and independence in collaboration with other members of the multidisciplinary team.

Participate in escorting service users on home visits and accessing the community, including as lone worker.

Demonstrate flexibility and adaptability working across other wards according to service needs.

Work effectively as a team member in providing and facilitating a high standard of nursing care.

Liaise with members of the team within the department, ensuring care is delivered to the service user both effectively and efficiently.

Ensure the privacy, dignity and confidentiality of service users, relatives, carers and colleagues is respected at all times. Handle service user property and valuables.

Report complaints or concerns to the nurse in charge/shift leader.

Ensure that clinical areas are well maintained and comply with health and safety regulations, ensuring the safe use of equipment and furniture.

Support the induction, training and education of students, experts by experience, volunteers and other staff members.

Review and reflect on own practice, through regular participation in professional supervision, appraisal and attendance at team meetings.

Commit to undertaking training and education to progress clinical skills as indicated by service development needs.

Be conversant and comply with all trust and local policies including, health and safety procedures.

Report any health or safety hazards or untoward occurrences to senior staff and use documentation appropriate to level of competency. Be aware of professional boundaries between service users and staff and adhere to the professional boundaries for healthcare support workers policy.

Work as a part of a PMVA team for de-escalation or hands on interventions.

The post holder will be employed to work within a particular ward environment but may be required to work within any other ward/locality as demand requires.
