**About us**:
Warrington Borough Council is seeking a skilled Senior Health Protection Specialist to provide fixed-term maternity cover expected to last approximately 12 months.

Extensive knowledge of the health protection role and responsibilities within a Local Authority are required. Additionally, applicants should demonstrate an understanding of the social determinants of health, the scope of health protection, and the roles and responsibilities of local and regional partners in health protection. Leading the development, implementation, and evaluation of Public Health programs with local, system, and regional partners are also essential requirements for the post.

**The role**:
The post holder will collaborate closely with the Consultant in Public Health (Health Protection) and existing public health specialist roles. A key responsibility of this role is to maintain a strategic overview of health protection activities, ensuring appropriate mechanisms are in place to report to and assure the Health Protection Board. The primary focus of the post will be to assume strategic and senior-level responsibility for the delivery of health protection at a population level and associated independent authority.

The post holder will be expected to cope with multiple and changing demands while meeting tight deadlines. A high level of intellectual rigor, political awareness, negotiation, motivation skills, and flexibility are required to understand broad organisational cultures, advise, challenge, and advocate to enable effective working across partnerships, as well as being able to influence without direct authority.

The post reports to the Consultant in Public Health (health Protection) and is part of the Health Protection and Health Care Public Health Team. The postholder will work alongside the Knowledge and Intelligence team for health protection matters. Other key relationships are with members of the PH team, Public Protection, Neighbourhoods and Housing services.

External working relationships arise from the breadth of health protection work, including work with the Integrated Care System (ICB), NHSE, UK Health Security Agency (UKSHA), Infection Prevention and Control team, local providers, and regional activities and CHAMPS and other local public health teams. Specific health protection activities will require working with the private sector, voluntary sector, local communities, user groups, and individual members of the public.

The key outcomes for the post include national, regional, and locally agreed targets, which encompass outcomes outlined in the Public Health and NHS outcomes framework for health protection. Additionally, the role contributes to health improvement and wellbeing outcomes through wider partnership working.
