The Hillingdon Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust delivers a full range of acute hospital services to the 300,000 population of the Hillingdon District. The Hospital caters for a population that includes a significant immigrant population, partly owing to the fact that the district includes Heathrow Airport, and an expanding Harmondsworth Detention Centre.

The Trust employs over 2000 staff across two main sites, The Hillingdon Hospital in Uxbridge, and Mount Vernon Hospital in Northwood. The Trust has an annual budget of £238 million, and has a capacity of 419 beds. All emergency admissions come to The Hillingdon Hospital, predominantly
through the Hillingdon A&E Department. This hospital currently admits about 50,000 patients per annum.

It has a busy and recently re-developed Accident and Emergency Department, which deals with approximately 90,000 Accident & Emergency attendances each year. There is also a new Coronary Care Unit, an Intensive Care / High Dependency Unit with eleven beds and dialysis facilities, a specialist unit for care and rehabilitation of victims from stroke, and specialist units - including, for example, Diabetecare, Endocrinology, and Respiratory Medicine Specialists.
