Speech and Language Support Worker

We are looking for an enthusiastic and hardworking person who will make the most of this opportunity to work and learn with the friendly, highly skilled Speech and Language therapists on the Stroke Unit at Royal Cornwall Hospital. This is a 9 month maternity leave cover, and will provide fantastic experience of delivering swallow and communication support to stroke patients on Phoenix ward.
To assist in the delivery of Speech and Language Therapy Services to stroke patients requiring input. This role will support Speech and Language Therapists in the assessment and treatment of patients with stroke, and the day-to-day running of the therapy environment.
To accept patients referred by a Speech and Language Therapist and manage a designated patient caseload. Treat patients according to set treatment protocols, monitoring patient progression, make alterations (within protocols and scope of practice) to patient treatment programmes as required.
Work unsupervised regularly, within scope of competency, reporting back patient progress and informing Therapist of any problems.
For a defined and delegated group of patients - to undertake an assessment using investigative and analytical skills. To use clinical reasoning and utilise a range of assessment and treatment skills under the direction of an appropriate therapist.
