**Job summary**:
The Secretary of State for Levelling Up has set out a highly ambitious agenda to level up the country and deliver better outcomes for all. The Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities has established a new Spatial Data Unit (SDU), aiming to transform our ability to map and track local areas’ progress on levelling up and to understand how government interventions interact with places across the UK, at a local level. The Unit is focussing on:

- developing richer data and better, timely access to local data at granular level;
- bringing together data about place in an accessible, digital format and providing the raw materials for robust geospatial analysis;
- establishing a shared approach across central and local government for capturing key data on spend, programme effectiveness and delivery; and
- improving central government and local stakeholders’ capability to analyse and understand progress against levelling up missions’ targets.

We are looking for a SEO Strategic Engagement and Communications Officer to help strengthening key senior relationships and how the SDU communicates its work in a way that maximises impact. This is an exciting opportunity for someone passionate about levelling up agenda to help shape the work of SDU.

Previous experience of working in data roles is not a prerequisite for this role.

**Job description**:
We are looking for an SEO Strategic Engagement and Communications Officer to help shape and deliver a communication strategy and strengthen strategic relationships across DLUHC and with other departments, along with our external partnerships, to help maximise how spatial data and insights can support the Levelling Up agenda.

You will be working at the heart of both DLUHC and the Government to deliver this high-profile agenda, working with other government departments as well as other key stakeholders.

**Responsibilities**

We are looking for an individual who is motivated, flexible and enthusiastic with great people and communication skills. Specifically, you will:

- Lead on the development of an SDU communications strategy and delivery of a range of comms and engagement materials
- Help develop and deliver a continuous and proactive programme of senior-level strategic engagement to support SDU’s key objectives, ensuring these are aligned with key departmental and government priorities.
- Work on the development, planning, coordination and delivery of communication and engagement activities with our wide range of partners for the SDU
- Work collaboratively across SDU, DLUHC and other departments and external stakeholders to implement integrated, insight-based, impactful communication and engagement activities
- Using multiple communications channels and work with the team to develop different materials such as talks, data packs, presentations and blogs.

**Person specification**:
**Key skills/criteria**
- Demonstrable experience of having previously worked in a strategic communication and/or engagement role
- Ability to establish strong internal and external relationships, and to communicating with different audiences, including senior decision makers
- Ability to work flexibility, with an understanding of the use of different channels and formats for different audiences.
- Building networks and relationships of influence at all levels, including senior leaders, to deliver objectives successfully. Track record of building effective stakeholder or collaborative relationships with a range of partners and delivering results through those partnerships.
- Excellent decision making and judgement skills, and ability to synthesise complex issues effectively and at pace to senior decision makers
- Be able to work flexibly at pace, managing several competing deadlines and rapidly changing priorities at short notice and to very short timescales.
- Strong organisational skills and ability to work with independence.

**Desirable criteria**
- Awareness or understanding of the Levelling Up White Paper and its Technical Annex on missions and metrics, the unique opportunities and challenges it faces.
- Knowledge or experience of one or more data domains (Data Science, Reporting, Data Governance etc) or experience of working with data specialists will be beneficial but not essential. You will be able to draw on a friendly and supportive team for advice when needed.
