The post-holder is responsible for developing professional leadership and leading the Trust processes for governance including patient safety, incidents including, Never Events, serious incident management, being open/Duty of candour, incident reporting systems and evaluating assurances and compliance in relation to patient safety standards.

The post-holder is responsible for leadership and overseeing and managing the Trust processes for patient safety including incident reporting systems, incident investigation and Duty of Candour compliance.

To be the MSE Lead on monitoring compliance with all regulatory requirements relating to incident reporting and Duty of Candour compliance.

To manage the Group compliance process for all external and internal healthcare standards ensuring that the Group Director - Governance, Risk and Compliance is fully informed of the status of compliance levels.

To ensure regular “horizon scanning” to identify changes to existing standards and new emerging/developmental standards are identified early and communicated effectively to the Group Director - Governance, Risk and Compliance and appropriate boards, committees and groups.

To provide expert advice on patient safety including incident reporting systems, incident investigation and Duty of Candour compliance to Leadership Teams and clinical staff as required. To develop proactive relationships with services to foster sharing of best practice and corporate learning.

To be an excellent communicator at all levels both internally and externally and at times, there may be barriers to understanding specially when information is highly contentious and complex.
