Patient Safety Officer

The corporate Patient Safety Team are seeking to recruit a patient safety officer with knowledge of the principles incident management. The successful applicant will have experience in supporting effective incident managementand escalationwithin a corporate team and a working knowledge in the use of the RLDatix DCIQ system.
The post holder will support the Nursing and Governance division with the delivery of its patient safety and quality strategy and raising the department’s profile across the organisation and supporting all staff in all aspects of incident management.
The Patient Safety Officer will work as part of the Patient Safety Team ensuring the provision of a full and effective comprehensive range of administrative support enabling Patient Safety Team to fulfil its function to a high quality standard.
They will liaise with a multi-disciplinary team including clinicians, managers and other administrative staff in a professional manner and provide guidance to all levels of staff on Trust requirements for incident review.
The post holder will co-ordinate agendas for Trust’s Executive and Director led incident review groups and to capture outcomes from discussions at the meetings.
The post holder must be able to collaborate with the corporate governance and clinical/operational teams across the Trust to enhance the patient safety culture through the effective management of patient safety incidents and risks.
**The post holder will**:
- To assist the Patient Safety Team in all aspects of the day to day management of incidents.
- To actively support and promote a transparent and learning culture
- To provide comprehensive and specialist incident administration support and acting as a primary point of contact for incident management queries, and providing solutions on an ad hoc basis.
- To actively track progress with incidents, incident actions and presentation to support timely closure and learning.
- To actively contribute to ongoing quality improvements to support appropriate incident reporting and management.
- To support the Trust in meeting the requirements of the serious incident framework.
- To support regular meeting with Commissioner’s and providing status updates on declared incidents and associated action plans.
- To support Datix system maintenance, user administration and data quality.
- To provide administrative support for the roll out of training across the Trust.
- To complete various weekly monthly audits, including ordering notes, data collection, updating graphs and updating relevant reports.
- Work within own competencies to assist the patient safety team and escalate issues appropriately to ensure urgent situations are addressed swiftly.
- Manage own workload without day to day supervision.
