Radiology Physics is part of the expanding Medical Physics and Clinical Engineering Department, which is raising its profile within the Trust and building networks with other Trusts and Universities. The section has close working relationships with colleagues in Nuclear Medicine, Kent and Medway Communication and Assistive Technology (KM CAT) service and Medical Devices Governance team (MDGT). The department has links with local universities. We are a diverse, vibrant and dynamic department, well-integrated into the Trust and with representation and support at Care Group level.

We provide scientific, technical and regulatory support to X-ray, ultrasound and laser facilities across the Trust and the NHSBSP in East Kent, Medway, Maidstone and Brighton.

We provide scientific, technical and regulatory support to X-ray, ultrasound and laser facilities across the Trust and the NHSBSP in East Kent, Medway, Maidstone and Brighton.
1. Carry out scientific quality control and performance assessments on a wide range of diagnostic X-ray and ultrasound imaging systems using associated test and measuring equipment. Radiological equipment includes digital imaging, computed tomography (CT), interventional and cardiac imaging, mammography and dental imaging.
2. Carry out, (under supervision where applicable) commissioning, acceptance testing and critical examination of new X-ray and ultrasound equipment.
3. Carry out and assess the performance of ultrasound scanners and provide training and advice on optimisation.
4. To assist with equipment quality control and performance assessments on other non-ionising imaging equipment as required.
5. Provide written reports and advice to radiology managers, radiographers, radiologists and others. Liaise with manufacturers’ representatives where necessary.
6. To participate in the teaching of other groups of professionals, (e.g. non-medical referrers, practitioners, operators, RPSs) about issues relating to radiation safety.

**The postholder will be expected**:
1. To assist in the provision of scientific advice to users of medical imaging equipment, within own scope of practice.
2. To assist with the personal dose monitoring service for all Trust staff occupationally exposed to ionising radiation and to review personal radiation monitoring results, maintaining close links with Radiation Protection Supervisors.
3. To assist in the training of trainee physicists and technologists.
4. To be the section representative for health and safety compliance within the section.
5. If required, to act as Radiation Protection Supervisor for the work carried out within Medical Physics.
6. To maintain safe working practices under the guidance of established protocols, Local Rules, regulations and professional guidelines.
7. To develop and maintain computerised records, scientific spreadsheets, databases and inventories used by the section; assisting in their validation and full documentation as required by the department’s Quality System.
8. To participate in development of software analysis tools using Microsoft excel.
9. To respond with the team, under supervision, to emergencies involving radiation.
10. To work in an efficient, effective and timely manner and to be adaptable to change and comment on procedures or possible service developments.
